First day of shooting on my experimental / proof of concept / music video / short film The Scientist. Cold, muddy and a whole load of fun!
Last week my short The Last Line got picked up by Indieflix which means it will earn money when it's watched. Needless to say I'm stocked as are all those involved with the production. It's a great place for the film to end up!

Staring role: Kline, rugged, medium to thin build, fit, average to above average height, lots of voice over, American accents welcome. Kline is an ex-amensia patent, found wondering beach.. searches revealed no family, no previous associations, nothing. After building a new life as a private eye, he's become world weary, jaded and Nihilistic.. but he's still got a spark, is unusually intelligent and ever driven to find out where he came from.
Lead supporting role: The scientist Hansel, intellectual type, average to thin build, alternative/odd ball looks welcome. Committed and serious there's little else in the world that matters to him as much as his work.. a formidable mind and while not outwardly geeky he has a typically awkward relationship with the real world you'd expect of a man with deep knowledge of the most exotic sciences.
The Last Line screening in L.A!
I just heard The Last Line has been chosen as one of a select few shorts that will be screened in L.A. in front of industry professionals!
This is going to happen after the HollyShorts film festival that centres around the famous Chinese Theatre in Hollywood which has been home to some great premiers, including Star Wars.

Music & Emotion
The audio work AFX Industrial have done for the film is excellent, it’s not just making the the vocals sound good and adding new foley. David has crated a continuous wave of audio that guides the viewer through the story, dropping down to near silence in parts and racking up 60 tracks of audio in others. The difference is profound and an excellent example of why this side of a production should not be neglected, which is too often the case in indi films. Of course anyone who watches it will scarcely notice any of this as should be the case, ironically its impact will be great however.
We’ve obtained the rights to an awesome track by Trip-Hop musician, Wax Tailor for a key scene which is a relief. A big no no is finding unlicensed music setting it to your movie, falling in love with it then being denied or unable to afford the license. The former very nearly was the case. Now it’s in the bag which is great because its as if Mr Tailor scored the piece for the film. There’s also some beautiful Chopin in another scene and jazz too!
On top of all this audio sweetening and layering I’ve decided to re-grade the entire film. Re-think the emotional and aesthetic motivations and being inspired by vintage French absinthe posters has made me realise the first version was too sterile. So equipped with some new colour science settings and a Fuji Film look, I’m hard at work already. This is a big job and next time ill employ a professional colourist but I know it’s gonna be worth it. Now, it’s all about details..
The Last Line
I’m pleased to announce that pre-production has begun on a new React Films short film called The Last Line. The story centers around a young writer called Cheri who is struggling to finish her latest piece. With a deadline of the following morning, that night she embarks on surreal journey into a shadowy world of fortune tellers, jazz, beatniks and dreams in order to find inspiration for the last line of her story.
Written and being produced and directed by myself, Ross Wilson, the film should enter principle photography around mid June 2011.
