Y'all know I hate the bible with a fiery passion but ecclesiastes went off ngl
Working on Saturday’s show with Chadwick.
"Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself" Phil 2:3
Or... we could not do that
Okay. I'm going to try this again.
Christians who put their religion before everything else scare me.
There are many ways to interpret verses. The NIFB has biblical backing just like progressive Christians do.
The easiest interpretation is the one that's laid out. Meaning, the simplest way to interpret "if a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death" (Lev 20:13) is "if two gay men have sex they deserve to be killed".
The simplest way to interpret "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent." (1 Tim 2:12) or "For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church." (1 Corin 14:35) or "Wives submit to your husbands" (Eph 5:22, but also in like a million other places) is "men have authority and women are lesser (especially in marriage)".
People have started bringing up context lately bc they know a lot of things in the Bible sound... let's go with unsavory, and they need a way to justify it. Does context matter? Yes. Does everyone care about context if it contradicts what they already believe? Does everyone take the time to look into context? Does everyone even want to know context? Absolutely not.
It's way too easy to slip in the fundamentalist hellhole. If religion rules your life and someone is able to sway you into thinking immoral interpretations are the truth, you're not going to drop your religion. You'll drop your humanity instead.
I was disgusted the whole way through the Bible, I'm not shy about that. But the end of judges had my jaw on the ground. It's repulsive. It's appalling. I never want to read it again and I don't feel like I need to read the rest of the Bible to justify my departure from xtianity.
Holy. Fuck. How can you read the bible and not be completely horrified. How. The FUCK. Can you read the old testament and not be absolutely disgusted with how god treated the Israelites, whom he claimed to LOVE. They were completely disposable to him and only existed for his glory. I really. REALLY. Do not trust a single christian that has read through the bible and is still a christian (unless it's out of fear. Fear I understand). I just don't.
in genesis 17:17 it says that abraham laughed when he heard his wife was going to have a baby and everyone wants to jump up and say “well he laughed out of happiness and delight and sarah laughed out of unbelief” and there are so many things i hate about that. they both had the same physical reaction, it’s really sus to me that a man’s initial reaction is okay and a woman’s isn’t, even if she did laugh out of disbelief why was she “punished” for her initial reaction as she really doesn’t have control over that, AND (this could very well be a projection of modern times but) if men at that time had as little idea of how women’s bodies worked back then as they do now, then it makes sense that sarah would immediately be like “lol obv this isn’t going to happen bc i know my body” and abraham would be like “sounds legit” so imo it’s very possible that his immediate reaction could have been an expression of ignorance and not a sign of more faith in god than sarah
idk just punishing a woman’s immediate reaction and ignoring/rewarding a man’s (isaac means he laughs and god names him, so i get the sense that he appreciated when abraham laughed) when they are the same exact action seems not great to me
