Book Review 📚 2017 Book 11: KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON by David Grann ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ Rating: 🍷🍷🍷🍷 out of 5 Cheers! ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ Have you ever read a story that just makes you angry or pisses you off?? Killers of the Flower Moon was that kind of book for me. I was completely captivated by the story and could not put this book down. Although heartbreaking, this is a story that needed to be told. The reign of terror & murder of oil-wealthy Osage Indians, the control and overreach by the U.S. Government and the criminal operations stealing millions from this community was unfathomable. I should not be shocked by the sheer greed, taking of land and systematic killing of a group of people because this is the foundation (history) of America. The story is delivered at a nice pace and the absorbant amount of research is delivered in a manner that keeps the reader wanting to discover more. There's nothing like a good non-fiction book and this is definitely a must read for all. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ “History is a merciless judge. Book Review 📚 ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ 2017 Book 9: ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE by Elizabeth Strout ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ Rating: 🍷🍷🍷🍷out of 5 Cheers! One can't deny that Elizabeth Strout is a master storyteller and her prose is exceptionally beautuiful. I've always wondered about the folks Lucy and her mother gossiped about in 'My Name is Lucy Barton'. I was thrilled to receive a NetGalley advance copy of Anything is Possible and even more excited to learn that the book is an extension to My Name is Lucy Barton. However, you do not have the read MNILB prior to this book. Anything is Possible stands alone as interlocking stories about people in Lucy's hometown who are flawed, fragile and humanly relatable. These stories envelope the reader and transports you to the small town of Amgash. I love the way Strout makes me care about all of her characters whether I like them or not. She delivers hardships with grace and ultimately shows a path towards redemption. Book Review 📚 2017 Book 7: THE FIRE NEXT TIME by James Baldwin ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ Rating: 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷out of 5 Cheers! ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ Absolutely timeless & stunning! Any review that I post would not be worthy for this masterful piece of literature. The raw, painfully honest, and prophetic insights of race relations in America made me feel as though I was reading about 2017 rather than 1963. I love the passion that is delivered through Baldwin's words. This is a must read for everyone.
