FanFiction Writers of the Supernatural Fandom [Reader Challenge 2026]

(Fanfiction) Writers love praise & attention! Interaction is the fuel that motivates us to create. Sadly, engagement is dwindling across fandom spaces. This Reader Challenge is a chance to give your fellow and favorite authors some well-deserved love. Support your creators and earn yourself a little reward in our Discord Server. Anyone can join, whether or not you are a member of our server — but prizes can only be claimed by members. Join our Discord here!

INFO & RULES:

The goal is to highlight as many fanfictions as possible. To do so, please reblog and comment on some amazing writing on Tumblr! Use the #FFWotSPNF Reader Challenge 2026 hashtag in your reblog. Add this little banner at the end of your reblog-comment to spread the love (Can also be found in the Discord Server):

If you need a little inspiration or are unsure what/how to comment, here are some possible guidelines: Fanfiction Comment Guide, 101 Comment Starters, Guide to Leaving Long and Detailed Comments, A Simple Guide To Not Being Afraid To Write Comments To Fic You Read. A general rule of thumb is: Even something short and simple like “I loved reading this”, a heart emoji, or even happy keyboard smashes are much appreciated. You don’t have to write the perfect essay (but you are welcome to do so, if you want to).

At the end of this challenge, post a “Reader Masterlist” of all the fanfics you reblog-commented to Tumblr. It can look something like this, for example, but you’re free to shape it to your own liking. If you need help creating a masterlist, message Liane @chevroletdean or one of the mods. The only rules for the masterpost are as follows:

Include a link to this information post for our Discord Server somewhere in your Reader Masterlist.

Use the #FFWotSPNF Reader Challenge 2026 hashtag.

Submit the post to the #reader-challenge Discord channel (or tag @fanficwritersofthespnfandom on Tumblr).

The deadline is Friday 08/28/2026, 11:59 PM, CET.

The 9 Reader Challenge Prompts are the minimum, the list of which can be found below. There is no maximum. You are always welcome to reblog more than that – even stuff outside of the prompts.

The FFWotSPNF Reader Challenge 2026 is open to ages 15+. However, if you are a minor, we ask that you interact only with SFW material. Every adult participant must mark 18+ / NSFW content accordingly in their “Reader Masterlist” (for example, indicate adult content with a clear warning). Violation of this rule leads to exclusion from this event and a ban from our server!

The fanfictions can be of any length, about any ship (including reader and OC inserts), and of any genre.

Since we are a SPN community, the fanfictions should be within the Supernatural fandom or adjacent to it. RPF and fanfictions of fandoms that include SPN actors (for example The Boys, Walker, etc.) are also accepted.

It’s finally happened! I hit 2000 followers!

Now it’s time to give back to all of you who have shown me so much love and support in my writing endeavors. I can’t wait to read and share your hard work.

Welcome to the trash pile! Here are the rules for the challenge:

1. Choose your favorite trash man. Even though this is a Marvel blog, I’ll accept a trash man from any fandom. What is a trash man, you ask?

Trash man: a person considered undesirable by polite society [being a trash man is a state of mind, any gender is applicable]

Trash men include villains, antagonists, anti-heroes, dirtbags, “bad guys,” misunderstood bastards, and any character you want to write dark.

2. Your content can be any genre. Fluff, smut, angst, dark, whatever. It can involve OTP’s or OC’s or Readers. It can also be character-centric with no romance at all.

3. Nothing is off limits. But please be courteous to the other residents of the trash bin and tag your warnings accordingly. I’ll know if you don’t because I’m reading everything.

4. The format. No word limit, but please use a Read More for longer entries. Can be drabbles, one shots, social media AUs, part of a series, whatever your little heart desires.

5. Choose your prompt. Send me an ask with the category and number (i.e. Song #4).

6. Two participants per prompt. Can be the same character. If the prompts fill up, I will add a new category to choose from.

7. Due date: March 31st, 2020. Make your faves suffer on the day of the year most people don’t think exists AKA my birthday.

NaNoWriMo Reader Challenge!

Hey all! With crazed, sleep-deprived authors gearing up to challenge themselves this November, I thought about what I could do as a reader to encourage people taking Nano on. SO.

Obviously this only really works for online published works and those you are editing/betaing, but still I thought it was worth a shot! Especially with works you can access for free, it's good to let writers know they're doing all right!

I know a lot of people struggle with what to say in comments, so this might help improve what you want to say to authors and get you in the habit of commenting.

You don't have to read new works to do this challenge and can go through your bookmarks if you like, but I definitely encourage reaching out to newer stories. Bonus if you do these with primarily new stories/WIPs!

My challenge is a bit Inktober-esque:

NaNo 30 Days of Comments

1. Find a work you've read more than once. Tell the author you keep coming back (and why, if you'd like)

2. Pick a quote from a work that hits you specifically and proceed to say why it works for you

3. Was it hilarious? Heart-wrenching? Adorable af? Let them know how it made you feel!

4. What was the character dynamic? Did they get your OTP or Brotp or whatever that may be just right? Was there drama and tension?

5. Dialogue day! How were the conversations in the fic? Snappy? Snarky? Fluffy?

6. If the author is clearly asking with constructive criticism, help them out with a grammar spelling or common word misuse error. If they aren't asking or don't have issues you see, let them know you appreciate them bringing their story to you!

7. Words are beautiful. Favorite description / word choice in the work - why does it work?

8-14: Now that we're in the swing of things, find a multi chapter work and comment on every chapter, using ideas from last week's prompts.

15. Halfway there - find a recently updated / unfinished work and let them know how much you enjoy the progress they're making!

16. Super challenging day - find a work you don't absolutely love, (don't outright trigger yourself or squick, just something... meh) and let them know one or two things that work well. IF they're taking criticism, POLITELY let them know one reason that it isn't your favorite if it isn't just a I-don't-like-this-pairing/trope/thing-that-is-clearly-tagged scenario.

17. I read most of my fic on AO3. Where do you normally read? Pick another platform and comment on something there using one of prompts 1-5. If you can't find a new fic elsewhere, try and see if an author you like posts elsewhere and give them extra love!

18: Sometimes an AU fits just perfectly. How do these characters match up in their new setting? (If it's a Hogwarts AU, for example, how about that sorting?) If you're reading original work, what's working as far as universe/setting?

19. Fic and art day - sometimes writing and art go hand in hand. Find artwork inspired by writing or vice versa, and let them know how their contribution works with the original!

20. Side Characters: Sometimes it's the heroes and lovers and action. Sometimes it's the best friend or the dog or the weird-sort-of-dad friend. How is their supporting cast awesome/funny/sweet/interesting?

21. Beginnings and endings! Find how one story opens and how one closes - it can be the same one, but the most the merrier - and tell the author about your reaction!

22-28 Multichapter works again. Do more of them than last time if you can manage! Look at previous prompts if you're stumped for ideas of what to say each chapter.

29. Do a play-by-play - as you read, react to different moments in the story. (best way I've found is to do it on a sticky note on screen while I read) Clean it up a bit so it's clear what each reaction is about, then send the whole reaction as a comment.

30. If you're a writer, find a story with similar tags/tropes/ideas to your own writing, and let them know how they're doing good! If you just read, go to a small fandom/rarepair/less-well-known tag and comment with your favorite prompt so far or a combination of prompts you liked!

Fic Reader Challenge for April

As a voracious fanfic reader,  as well as a writer - I’m challenging myself (and anyone who wants to play)  to go out and  (at least) once a week,  find a  fic in my preferred fandom/pairing/whatever I feel like reading  that currently has ZERO comments. 

How, you ask?   Go  to the Ao3 Work Search page - scroll down and put a 0 in the Comments field.   Choose whatever other criteria trips your trigger. 

I will then read that fic and leave a comment.  It may just be a “this was great/fun/cute/sad”   (if I’m short on time/on my phone)  or  a paragraphs-long gush about the characters, the plot, the setting, what have you but I WILL WRITE SOMETHING. 

I will then reblog this post  and add  a link to the fic.
