#reader issue

thoughts on being a newbie fan of WoT

Joining the fandom of WoT right now feels two faced :

On one hand, I feel excited over all the amazing characters arcs, plot devices, political plotting, battles.... that I have yet to read.

But at the same time, as a very secluded fan (idk like WoT is not z big thing in France), I feel on a minefield because every time I go on Tumblr or whatever to find some fan interaction / fan thoughts, I get frckg spoiled. I mean I'm the one at fault clearly but I can't imagine reading the books and not sharing anything. But I want to take the time to read them and not rush the process just to be able to go on the internet.

One of my favorite character mainly has fics about them centered around ptsd. As someone with PTSD I don't mind, but it gets a bit repetative, and sometimes handled poorly.

1/? I'm kind of a big-ish name author in a smaller fic community, and a few people have told me they look up to my skills. a few have even started writing BECAUSE of me. however, one person's writing just... when I read it, i dunno if it's my personal preference of how their style or they're writing the characters ooc to me that i can't get past the first paragraph. paired with their strange choice of ignoring official spellings and instead directly spelling out important item names it just -

2/? feels weird. (it’s a Japanese fandom, ie instead of saying “Level Up!” they say “Reberu appu!”. it’s super weird and vaguely racist feeling to me?? idk) they keep checking in if I’ve read their fic and I just dunno how to tell them it feels… completely off without hurting their feelings. their fic’s about to break 100k words but it has only 2 comments on the whole thing across 16~ chapters. (my 15 chapter fic has like, 48~ despite being archive locked for over half it’s life so far)

3/? idk where I’m going with any of this but I don’t want to hurt someone else just bc I’m being picky (which is WILD bc my main season has >100 fics, and all seasons of this series together has >2000 total. being picky isn’t an option)

When you meet an author, and you don't know if you should tackle-hug them for writing such incredible characters, or bitch-slap them for torturing said characters.

Just finished reading "The Watchers" by Jon Steele, and realised there's still over nine months before I get to read the second book. *dying* Ok, time to get back to GoT and start reading the Millennium books and stuff.
