Privileged (37/53)
Summary: With the group of delinquents now divided, Clarke, Bellamy, *yn*, Octavia and Jasper head off on their quest to find Luna. But as always, things don’t exactly go to plan and the group once again find themselves fighting not just others, but also themselves.
Warnings: swearing, violence, death, angst, some fluff (rare these days!)
Notes: Based on 3x13 “Join or Die” and 3x14 “Red Sky at Morning” of The 100.
‘Privileged’ Masterlist
------------------
Rain pelted against the rover as it moved through the thick undergrowth. *yn* leant back, stretching out a kink in her neck as she let her eyes flutter closed. What had started out as a semi-fun trip with Jasper and her in the front seats had slowly turned into a nightmare.
The rover had been silent for nearly the entire trip, so thick with tension *yn* thought she might end up suffocating. Her and Jasper had switched places with Bellamy and Clarke a while ago and *yn*’s body was practically screaming at her to lie down on a soft mattress.
“It’s been an hour since we passed the aeroplane wreckage.” Jasper’s voice made her peak one eye open.
“Seeing as we’re using a map without any distances it could be days before we reach Luna’s village.” He continued and *yn* glanced down at the book resting on his lap to look at the map Lincoln had sketched.
“Well at least we know we’re going in the right direction.” Bellamy answered back as *yn* promptly shut her eyes again, deciding that she had no energy to engage in the conversation.
“We’re losing light. We should at least stop in the sun and recharge the battery.”
“What sun.” Clarke remarked. “We keep going until it dies.”
“We keep going until we get to Luna.” Octavia interjected.
“*yn? What do you think?” Jasper spoke from beside her.
“I’m wet and tired.” She answered, her eyes still remaining shut as she readjusted in her seat. “I’m happy to sit here for as long as possible.”
She was exhausted, both mentally and physically. But for some reason she was feeling more upbeat than she had in a long time. Maybe she was venturing into the ‘so tired you become delirious’ territory. Or maybe, as selfish as it sounded, having Raven and Elijah end things had given her some sort of mental reprieve. A chance to focus on saving her people and not how her heart was getting pulled in too many directions.
All of a sudden Bellamy slammed on the brakes and the rover jerked forward, sending *yn* nearly flying into the wall. Her eyes sprung open and she quickly braced herself, her hand instantly flying up to stop Jasper from smashing into her. *yn* peered through the front to see a fallen tree blocking their path.
“We’ll back track.” Bellamy huffed. “Find somewhere were the trees aren’t so- hey!” He called out as Octavia shoved open the back doors and leapt out onto the grass.
“So much for my dry trip.” *yn* grumbled as she followed after Octavia, Jasper hot on her heels too.
“You guys hear that?” Octavia called out as she came to a stop just ahead of them. They all fell silent at her words. *yn* strained her ears and could hear the sound of water, but the way it sounded was foreign to her. Like it was crashing. The sound was one she had only heard described up on the Ark.
The ocean.
“Water.” Clarke breathed out at the same time *yn* realised.
Then the three girls were off, sprinting in the direction of the crashing waves. “Keep your eyes sharp! They could be hostile!” Bellamy called out after them.
“They’re not hostile.” *yn* heard Octavia say as she promptly ignored Bellamy and continued to make a beeline for the water. “Put the guns down.”
*yn* followed a flowing river, bursting at the seems with rainwater as she got closer and closer to the ocean. So close now she could practically taste the salt water on her tastebuds.
Her whole life she had heard stories about the ocean, about its vastness. About beaches. About how before humans fled earth they would holiday and tan themselves on the sand. She practically burst through the tree line, coming to a stop as her eyes finally landed on the water. It looked like it would never end.
She could hear the others coming to a stop behind her as she soaked in the view.
“Where’s the village?”
She could hear Jasper’s question but barely registered it, unable to pull her focus from the sea.
“No, it can’t be.”
The distress in Octavia’s tone finally forced *yn* to rip her gaze away from the scenery and look at her friends. She followed Octavia’s stare to a circle of small rock piles. Clearly manmade, but that was it. There was no other living being in sight.
She followed after the group who had already taken off after Octavia. As they approached the manmade sculptures, *yn* realised that they weren’t so small after all. In fact, they were her height, if not a bit taller.
“It’s not a village it’s just a bunch of rocks.” Jasper remarked as they all came to a stop in the centre of the circle that the statues formed.
“She’s gone.” Clarke murmured.
“What the hell do we do now?” Jasper queried, stopping *yn* from letting her gaze drift back to the ocean.
“It’s us guys, we weren’t really expecting this to actually go to plan where we?” *yn* drawled, crossing her arms in front of her chest as she studied the rock formations, hoping there may be some answer hiding in their crevices.
She could find none.
An earth-shattering scream pierced the silence. *yn* turned to see Octavia seated on a rock at the edge of the water, her head tilted back as she let all of her frustrations out into that one sound.
“It’ll be dark soon.” *yn* muttered after a few moments of silence dragged on as they watched Octavia. “I’m going to start gathering some fire wood.”
“Not without me you’re not.” Jasper followed after her hastily.
Everyone else seemed to think that *yn*’s idea to leave Octavia in peace, because an hour later everyone had returned to the rock formations with arm loads of fire wood. Now all five of them were seated in awkward silence as Octavia attempted to get the fire started.
“I think we should camp here tonight. Once it’s light we can split up and search the shoreline for Luna.” *yn* spoke, finally deciding to break the silence.
She watched as Octavia successfully got a fire started and she immediately shuffled forward to get as much of the warmth as she could.
“I agree.” Bellamy nodded as he reached for Lincoln’s diary. “Lincoln wouldn’t have put this spot on the map if it wasn’t important-”
“Don’t touch that.” Octavia snarled, lunging forward and ripping the diary from his grasp.
Jasper, Clarke and *yn* exchanged glances as they eyed the siblings, all three of them not so subtly inching away to the other side of the fire.
“C’mon O.” Bellamy murmured as he crouched down beside her. “How long?”
“I don’t know.” She answered stiffly. “I can’t even look at you.”
Visible anguish appeared on Bellamy’s face and *yn* couldn’t fight the wave of sympathy that washed over her. She hated him for what he had done. But he was still Bellamy, her Bellamy. And she hated seeing him in pain.
“Because every time I do, I see Pike putting that gun to Lincoln’s head. I hear the gunshot. I see him fall.” *yn*’s heart cracked when Octavia’s voice did the same.
“I didn’t kill Lincoln.” Bellamy answered weakly and *yn* winced. The wrong thing to say.
“No but he is dead because of you!” Octavia raised her voice as she rose to her feet.
“I came to you.” Bellamy bit back, clearly not willing to back down. “You didn’t take my help. If you had just trusted me I-”
*yn* had to physically restrain herself from scoffing at his words. How could he expect them to trust him after what he had done?
“You can’t be serious.” Octavia chuckled darkly. “You think I would trust you after you massacred an army sent to protect us?”
She was voicing *yn*’s thoughts exactly to the letter. She kept her head down as she exposed her open palms to the warmth the fire provided. This was not her battle to fight.
Bellamy gritted his teeth and before he could stop himself, glanced over at *yn*. He could tell she was intentionally avoiding looking over at him and his sister, as was Clarke and Jasper. She was practically shielding herself with Jasper’s body as if he was a barrier between them.
“Don’t you dare look at *yn* for help.” Octavia spat.
That was enough to make everyones eyes drag over to the siblings in shock.
“I don’t know how she even stomachs to help you or talk to you. Probably because she’s a better person than I am.” Octavia’s eyes were blazing with untameable rage at this point as she directed all of her grief towards her brother.
“But you’re lucky she even looks in your direction. And I hope that she never ever forgives you. I hope that I get to watch you be forced to watch her slowly fall in love with someone else while you live out the rest of your life knowing it is entirely your fault that you let your soulmate go.”
The suffocating silence that followed was enough to make *yn* feel nauseous. It was like her, Clarke and Jasper had suddenly discovered their hands for the first time. All of them sitting in silence with their eyes fixed to their laps as the siblings glared at eachother.
“You done?” Bellamy managed to get out without his voice wavering.
“Yeah I’m done.” Octavia answered dismissively as she knelt back down over the fire to strip some more wood.
Bellamy gritted his teeth, his fists clenched at his sides as he shot her one last glance before stalking off. *yn* finally allowed herself to glance up to see the back of his guard jacket as he stormed off down the shoreline.
“Great.” Jasper breathed out as he leant back and chucked some leaves into the fire.
*yn*’s eyes widened as the flames suddenly rose and flickered, morphing into an emerald green colour right before her.
“What did you just do?” Octavia’s sharp voice rung out as she stared at Jasper.
“Nothing I just.. threw these into the fire.” He answered as he held up a branch.
Octavia’s eyes went wide as something slotted into place in her mind. She leant down and hurriedly unbound Lincoln’s book. She pulled out the exact same type of leaf that was in Jasper’s hand.
“Signal fire. Lincoln was trying to tell us... this is how we contact Luna.” She explained. A relieved smile spread across her lips that quickly infected the others.
“Maybe something will actually go right for us for once.” Jasper remarked.
“Don’t jinx it.” *yn* reprimanded as she rose to her feet. “Come on, let’s go get more.”
By the time Jasper and her had returned back from collecting more leaves, the sun had completely dipped below the horizon line. Bellamy still hadn’t returned to the fireplace.
*yn* felt that all too familiar tug in her stomach as she glanced over to see him sitting down the shoreline. It was like there was an invisible string tying them together, constantly pulling at her whenever she strayed too far from him. And right now it was practically yanking her towards him.
“I’ll be back.” She heard herself mumble to no one in particular.
She let that little string guide her away from the rock formations and down the shoreline. She glanced down at her feet, observing the crushed shells and dirt squelching under her boots. This wasn’t exactly what she had pictured when she thought of a beach. It wasn’t kilometres of finely crushed golden particles that stretched for eons and eons, bordered by beautiful sapphire coloured ocean.
Maybe one day she’d get to see that sort of beach.
She felt her heart hammering in her chest as she reached him. She could sense that he was watching her out of his peripheral vision as she sat down next time, just far enough away that their arms were not brushing. She brought her knees up towards her chest and wrapped her arms around them as her gaze settled on the black oblivion before them. She let her fingers glide through the fragmented shells beside her.
A pause before, “You’ll see a proper beach someday. I’ll make sure of it.”
A sad smile spread across her lips at his words. Sometimes she swore he had a little window with a view directly into her head. A few minutes passed as the pair sat in silence. The waves were gently lapping at the shore and there was a gentle breeze floating over them. It would have been a beautiful summer night in different circumstances.
“I’ve lost her.”
*yn*’s eyes flitted to the fire, studying Octavia moving around and adding more wood.
“She’s your sister, she’ll come around.”
“Lincoln’s blood is on my hands.” Bellamy’s voice was cracking.
“Lincoln’s death is not your fault.” She finally turned to look at him. “You did some horrible things yes, but you never wanted Lincoln to die. You tried to stop it.”
“How will she ever forgive me?” He breathed out as tears finally escaped to roll down his cheeks.
“Just....” *yn* trailed off as she bit her bottom lip. “Just give her time.”
“Is that what you need?” His voice was so quiet it was barely a whisper. “Time?”
"I don’t know... maybe.” She answered back. And that was the truth. Because honestly, she didn’t know if she could ever go back to the way things were before he had sided with Pike. But she also couldn’t rule it out either, because every bone in her body was aching to be with him again. Despite everything, despite Raven and Elijah and Pike.... she still loved him.
Bellamy just nodded and glanced down at his bruised knuckles. Her answer wasn’t an outright yes... but it wasn’t an outright no either. And that meant there was hope. And he would cling to that shred of hope until he took his last breath.
Because if there was one thing he was sure of, it was that he was never ever going to give her up again.
“But if Octavia’s going to forgive you, you have to learn to forgive yourself too Bellamy.”
Another tear slid down his cheek at her words.
“Forgiveness is hard for us.” His voice was hoarse now.
“It is.” She agreed, “but we’re working on it.”
She mustered up a feeble smile as she studied him, aware that her own lashes were growing wet with liquid. He glanced up from his hands to lock eyes with her, forcing his own weak smile up onto his features.
“I miss you.” He admitted, his lower lip quivering as he spoke.
Then *yn* was moving forward, wrapping her arms around his neck and closing the gap between them. She rested her chin on his shoulder and squeezed her eyes tightly as she felt tears beginning to run down her face as he wrapped his own arms around her.
He didn’t need to see how much his words hurt her.
“I miss you too.” Were the words she wanted to whisper back into his hair as she clung to him. Instead they sat in silence, the fate of their relationship dangling miserably in the balance.
Bellamy’s body suddenly tensed up underneath her and his grip on her body tightened. “What the hell-”
*yn* turned around just in time to see people rising up out of the water. She barely had time to process what she was seeing before hands were grabbing her and shoving her to the ground.
Before she could let out a scream a hand was covering her mouth and a zip tie was around her wrists. She writhed in a desperate attempt to break free as the masked people stood above her, weapons pointed in warning.
Her eyes darted around taking in how many grounders were surrounding them. There was no point in trying to struggle, they were completely outnumbered. Bellamy seemed to realise that it was pointless as he too stilled as the grounders shoved gags into their mouths and dragged them to their feet.
*yn* shot the grounder a glare that gripped her tightly by the arm and began to drag her towards where the others were sitting around the fire. She could hear Octavia talking frantically as her and Bellamy were pulled out of the darkness and into the light that the flame provided.
There was an unmasked grounder standing in the centre of the rock formations, tattoos swirling around his dark facial features. He began speaking to Octavia in grounder, but *yn* couldn’t decipher what he was saying. She really needed to keep going with her lessons.
Octavia answered him as Bellamy and *yn* were shoved to their knees before her.
“Skaikru. Bringers of death.” He answered in English. “Why should we give you safe passage?”
“Lincoln.” Octavia answered firmly. “He sent us.”
A few moments of silence passed as the grounder studied her before glancing down at *yn* and Bellamy. He nodded his head and said something to the guards behind them. *yn* felt a wave of relief wash over her as she felt the restraints being removed around her wrists and mouth.
Bellamy helped *yn* up, studying her to make sure she was unharmed before turning to Octavia. “What’s going on?” He whispered.
“I don’t know.” She answered back, swallowing nervously before turning back to the grounder.
*yn* watched as he opened a small box, revealing a dozen or so small vials filled with an unidentifiable green liquid. “What is that?” Clarke asked as he began handing them each one.
“Safe passage.” He answered gruffly as he passed one to *yn*.
“Octavia-” Bellamy began, but it was far too late. She had already yanked open the vial and downed its contents.
“I trust Lincoln.” Was all she said as she tossed the empty bottle to thee ground.
“If only she drinks, only she goes.”
*yn* glanced down at the vial in her hand and cautiously unscrewed the cap. She glanced over at Jasper to see him holding his unopened also. The pair locked eyes for a moment before both simultaneously shrugging.
They’d done far stupider things.
“See you on the other side.” Jasper spoke before downing his.
“*yn* wait-” But just like with Octavia, it was pointless. *yn* had already pressed the glass to her lips and tilted her head back. The liquid was almost tasteless, only a slight bitterness remained in her mouth after she had swallowed.
A loud thump made her head jerk over to see Octavia now lying unconscious beside the fire. In that moment she felt her vision begin to blur and her head grow foggy.
“Fuck.” She heard Jasper say just before she felt her legs give out from underneath her. She was unconscious before she hit the ground.
-------------------
Blinding light hit *yn* as her eyes fluttered open. She winced as she went to move and her head hit solid metal. She blinked a few times as her eyes grew adjusted to the light.
They were in some sort of shipping container. An old one too, rusting had caused numerous holes to appear which allowed the bright sunlight to stream in.
"My sword’s gone.”
Octavia was frantically searching around for her weapons. *yn* slid her hands down to her pockets as she got up onto her feet.
“Mine too.” She announced when she realised her hidden daggers were also missing.
“Where the hell are we?” Jasper queried just as the doors to the container swung open. All five of them simultaneously took a step back and covered their faces with their hands as sunlight practically blinded them.
“Luna.”
*yn* slowly lowered her hands, revealing a young woman with long curly hair standing in front of them. Her face was void of all emotion as she came to a stop in front of them, studying each and every one of them intently.
“Where’s Lincoln?”
“Lincoln is dead.” For the first time emotion flashed across Luna’s features as she processed the information.
“Lincoln said that you’d help us.” Clarke spoke softly as she approached Luna.
“Did he?”
“Luna, you’re the last of your kind. The last nightblood.”
“So Lexa’s dead as well.” Luna murmured, her eyes glazing over as she stared out past Clarke.
“Her spirit has chosen you to become the next Commander. Titus entrusted me with the Flame to give to you.” These words seemed to bring Luna back to reality, her eyes blazing as she fixed her gaze on Clarke.
“Then he should have told you that I left my conclave swearing to never kill again.”
Her words made *yn* and Bellamy exchange worried glances.
“You don’t have to kill. To lead is your birthright. How you lead is your choice.” Clarke slowly approached Luna, the Flame in her outreached palm.
“I recognise the sacred symbol.” Luna murmured as she studied the chip.
“This is the Flame, it holds the spirits of the Commanders. Of Lexa. Will you take it and become the next Commander?”
They stood with bated breath, watching Luna as she studied the Flame intently.
“No.”
*yn* could practically hear their hearts collectively shatter simultaneously. She barely had time to process Luna’s rejection before Luna was turning on her heel and marching out of the container.
“Hey wait!” Clarke called out. Then they were all following after her, stepping into the bright sunlight.
“What the....” *yn* trailed off as she looked at her surroundings.
Her eyes widened as she looked around. The blue vastness stretched as far as her eyes could see. They were on a giant structure. Right in the middle of the ocean.
--------------------
*yn* felt a shiver run up her spine and she automatically shuffled closer to the small fire. They were in some sort of communal area within the oil rig. There was a girl reading poetry or telling a story, *yn* wasn’t too sure. She had tuned out long ago, her mind focused solely on figuring out what the hell they were going to do next.
She glanced over at Jasper to see him staring at the girl, a small smile on his face. It had been a while since she had seen such a genuine smile.
“She’s back.” Bellamy’s voice made her turn away from Jasper to see Luna making her way towards them. “Maybe she’s changed her mind.”
With that *yn*, Clarke and Bellamy sprung to their feet and made a beeline for her.
“The boats return at nightfall. Then you leave.” Luna announced, crushing any shred of hope they had left.
“Luna just let us explain-” Clarke began. “No.” She answered coldly.
*yn* stepped forward, blocking her path. “You need to listen to us.” She shot Luna’s bodyguard a warning glare when he came to move her back.
“There’s something out there, something that has the potential to destroy us all.” Bellamy explained as he moved to stand between *yn* and Luna’s guard.
“Whatever it is, it can’t reach us here.”
“So it’s fine for everyone else to suffer then? As long as you’re safe?” *yn* snarled as she glared at her. Luna didn’t even bother to respond, eyeing her for a brief moment before shoving past her.
“*yn* don’t.” Clarke murmured quietly as *yn* took a step to follow after her. *yn* gritted her teeth as she watched Luna approach Octavia but ceased her movements.
-------------
“Jasper’s actually smiling.”
*yn* looked over her shoulder at Bellamy’s words, a soft smile of her own forming on her lips as she watched Jasper talking happily to the pretty girl that had been telling the story. Shay, he had said her name was.
She turned her attention back to the others, noting Clarke’s gaze fixed on Luna.
“Clarke.” She spoke gently, “let it go.”
“We can’t just leave.” Clarke hissed.
“We don’t have much of a choice.” Octavia remarked.
“Maybe we do.”
Clarke’s words made *yn*, Bellamy and Octavia all look up at her, their brows furrowing in confusion.
“What are you talking about?” Bellamy spoke.
“I’m talking about putting this into her head without asking.” Clarke whispered so quietly *yn* barely caught what she was saying.
“No way Clarke, this isn’t like Emerson. He was trying to kill us.” Octavia hissed back.
“Clarke we don’t have to do this. We can go back to Arkadia and fight.” Bellamy added.
“Fight who? It’s an army of our own people. I don’t like this anymore than you do but if Raven’s right and the code on this thing could stop ALIE...” Clarke trailed off as they watched Luna get up from her chair and make her way outside.
*yn* swallowed and glanced down at her lap as she racked her brain for any other possible solution. She could think of nothing.
“Give me a better idea.”
Another pause as *yn* stole a glance at Bellamy. She could tell by the look on his face that he was thinking the same thing. That they might not have a choice.
“We’ll wait here.” Bellamy murmured. “It’s the only way they’ll leave her alone with her.”
“Be careful.” *yn* warned Clarke as she moved to get up. “We only get one shot at this.” Clarke nodded and sent her a reassuring smile before following after Luna.
“Even ALIE gave people a choice.” Octavia remarked bitterly.
“We gave Luna a choice.” Bellamy reminded her.
“It’s for the greater good, O.” *yn* added causing a scoff to slip past Octavia’s lips.
“How many times have I heard that one before.” She snarked. Before *yn* or Bellamy could say anything Octavia rose from her seat and stormed off, leaving the pair alone.
--------------------
“Where’s Jasper?”
“Saying goodbye to his new friend.”
*yn* could hear Octavia and Bellamy talking behind her as the four made their way to the shipping container they first arrived in. Clarke had only just got back to tell them that she had been unsuccessful in forcing Luna to take the chip when guards had arrived to forcefully escort them back.
“Your gear.” Luna spoke, chucking their bags into the container. “You’ll get your weapons back once you land.”
“Inside.” A grounder ordered gruffly before shoving *yn*’s back. She clenched her jaw and resisted the urge to turn around and sock him in the face as she stepped inside the structure.
She could hear Clarke talking to Luna as Octavia and Bellamy followed her inside. This whole trip had been a disaster. She just wanted to get the chip back and get the hell out of here.
A yelp of surprise made *yn* turn around just in time to see Clarke being thrown into the container by one of the guards. *yn* caught a glimpse of Luna being struck by one of her people before the doors slammed shut, the sound of the bolt being slid into place echoing throughout the space.
“What the fuck-”
“- they took the flame.” Clarke exclaimed as she rushed to the door, banging and shouting.
“What is this?” Clarke shouted.
“Luna’s people were attacking her.” Bellamy’s voice made *yn* turn to him as realisation dawned on her.
“ALIE’s here.” *yn* breathed out as Octavia began to try and kick down the door.
“How the hell did she even find this place?” Octavia queried.
“There was a drone at Nylah’s. She must have followed us here looking for the flame and now she has it.”
“She’s going to put the AI in Luna.” *yn* murmured in realisation.
“She’d have to chip her first though.” Clarke answered. “If Luna’s chipped before she gets the AI... ALIE’s going to know everything. We’ll never be able to stop her.”
------------------
The wind was howling relentlessly, battering against the eroded metal as the soft moonlight peaked through the small holes of the container. *yn* had no idea how long the four of them had been stuck inside, but it had been long enough for all four of them to give up trying to bust open the doors.
“This place was safe before we got here.” Octavia remarked as she absentmindedly flicked her torch on and off.
Before anyone could respond the sound of the bolt sliding out of the latch echoed through the structure. The four immediately sprang to their feet and hurried towards the door as it opened a crack.
“Oh my god.” The words slipped past *yn*’s lips as her eyes fell on Shay lying on the floor before them. An arrow was protruding from her back.
*yn* immediately hurried to her side and fell to her knees.
“Machines...” Shay managed to get out as blood began to pour from every orifice on her face. “Level B2...” She coughed as more blood spilled from her lips.
“Shhh...” *yn* murmured, cupping her face gently in an attempt to sooth her as she took her last few breaths. *yn* knew there was nothing they could do to save her. At least she could have some comfort as she passed.
Clarke pressed two fingers to Shay’s neck as her body suddenly stilled and her eyes glassed over. A shake of her head as she rose to her feet, “let’s go.” *yn* swallowed thickly and gently closed Shay’s eyes before rising to her feet and following after the others.
Octavia led the charge as the four sprinted inside and made their way down to the lower level that Shay had given them. *yn* was about to ask if they were going the right way when a deafening scream emitted from a room just ahead.
“O be careful!” Bellamy shouted as Octavia sped up, bursting through the door without a second thought.
The four of them stumbled into the room, immediately noticing the dead bodies scattered all over the floor. Jasper was tied up, his hands above his head, and a young girl was cowering in the corner.
*yn* came to a stand still as her eyes fell on Luna, cradling a man in her arms.
They were too late.
“Shay?” *yn* heard Jasper ask Octavia as she moved to free him from his restraints.
“I’m sorry.” *yn* heard Octavia answer as she forced herself to keep her back from Jasper. She couldn’t bare to see his pain again, not when he had finally been happy for the first time since she could remember.
“It’s what we do.” He whispered back.
*yn* could feel Bellamy’s presence beside her as she watched Luna lean over the man. “I’m sorry.” She breathed out as his body went limp in her arms.
The wail that echoed throughout the room after that was enough to make *yn*’s heart nearly stop. She felt tears brimming in her eyes as Luna clung to the body, wailing over and over as she did.
She let out a shaky breath as she felt a hand brush against her own. She swallowed thickly and slowly let her fingers clumsily intwine with Bellamy’s. Tears finally fell down her cheeks as Luna let out another cry of grief and Bellamy squeezed her hand tightly.
All *yn* could think about was if that had been Bellamy lying dead in her arms.
------------------
“Any one of them could be chipped and we wouldn’t know.”
*yn*’s eyes glided over the grounders, watching them as they gathered and for the funeral Luna was holding to honour those who died.
“They’ll make their move before we put the Flame in Luna.” Clarke answered Bellamy as Luna approached them.
“The ceremony is about to begin.” She explained coldly as cups of liquid were distributed to each of the delinquents.
“Luna wait.” Clarke spoke up just before Luna could turn her back to her. “I’m so sorry. But now you see what we’re facing. An enemy that will do anything to win. She won’t stop until she has everyone.”
*yn* studied Luna intently, watching as Luna’s gaze shifted to her for a moment before looking back at Clarke and then down at the chip in her hand.
“People I loved died today. Needlessly. At my hand. I cannot let that happen again.”
*yn* felt a small flicker of hope spark in her chest at Luna’s words. She watched as Luna turned to her people, raising a fist to signal for them all to rise.
“As we prepare to give our brothers and sister to the sea. We honour their lives.”
*yn* raised her hand up to the sky as the others did before drinking deeply from her cup.
“If we’re going to do this, we have to hurry. ALIE will send reinforcements. We have to find somewhere private to perform the ascension.”
Luna cocked her head to the side and studied Clarke briefly. "You believe that to defeat an enemy who will stop at nothing, you must stop at nothing. How is that different than blood must have blood?"
*yn*’s brow furrowed at her words and her facial expressions. Something was wrong. That flicker of hope was in danger of being very quickly snuffed out.
“Luna wait a second. You said that-” Octavia cut herself off as she suddenly stumbled back.
“Octavia!” *yn* called out as she moved to help her as Octavia collapsed into unconsciousness.
But as she took a step, she felt her legs wobble and buckle underneath her. There was nothing she could do as her mind grew foggy and she slipped quickly into the blackness of her mind.
----------------
A calloused hand on her cheek was the first thing that *yn* sensed when her eyes fluttered open. She blinked a few times as her vision sharpened, revealing Bellamy crouched over her.
The moment he realised she was waking he withdrew his hand and rose to his full height.
A part of her wished he hadn’t.
She rubbed at her eyes as she sat up and looked around. They were back on the main land. She winced as she got up onto her feet, stretching out her aching limbs as she trailed after Bellamy who was now standing at the shoreline.
She came to a stop beside him as Clarke, Octavia and Jasper joined them. All five stood in silence as they stared out into the ocean. There one hope of stopping ALIE was now unreachable, seperated by a few thousand miles of ocean.
“So what now?” Bellamy queried.
*yn* inhaled sharply as she crossed her arms in front of her and gazed into the water, “we think of a Plan B.”
