There'll come a time when it'll all be clear, Sweeper had said. A perfect moment.
The occupants of these graves had died for something. In the sunset glow, in the rising of the moon, in the taste of the cigar, in the warmth that comes from sheer exhaustion, Vimes saw it.
History finds a way. The nature of events changed, but the nature of the dead had not. It had been a mean, shameful little fight that ended them, a flyspecked footnote of history, but they hadn't been mean or shameful men. They hadn't run, and they could have run with honor. They'd stayed, and he wondered if the path had seemed as clear to them as it did to him now. They'd stayed not because they wanted to be heroes, but because they chose to think of it as their job, and it was in front of them--
"I'll be off then, sir," said Reg, shouldering his shovel. He seemed a long way away. "Sir?"
"Yeah, right. Right, Reg. Thank you," mumbled Vimes, and in the pink glow of the moment watched the corporal march down the darkening path and out into the city.
John Keel, Billy Wiglet, Horace Nancyball, Dai Dickins, Cecil "Snouty" Clapman, Ned Coates, and, technically, Reg Shoe. Probably there were no more than twenty people in the city now who knew all the names, because there were no statues, no monuments, nothing written down anywhere. You had to have been there.
He felt privileged to have been there twice.
Terry Pratchett, Night Watch

'He gets away with everything because everyone falls in love with him.'
Brandon Taylor, from Minor Black Figures
I'm so sorry but people need to stop being so insensitive towards people who don't thrift/DIY their stuff. Not everyone has access to thrift stores, DIY supplies etc.. and to shame people for not being as fortunate as you is just selfish. I get the entire sustainable thing but don't shame people who don't have (m)any other options. You're privileged with the option of diversity from where you can get your clothes or find your sizes, other people DONT. Some people can't find their size, don't have the budget, time or energy to dig through piles of clothing in a thrift store or spend hours painting an intricate design on a shirt. People have kids, jobs and other expenses and sometimes there's no huge budget left to thrift. Thrifting has ruined the opportunity for lesser fortunate people to gain access to "cheaper" supplies because of this thrifting trend. Now thrift stores need to up their prices because of resellers and stupid influencers who hog the thrift stores and leave little to nothing for people who ACTUALLY need it, so when these people opt for something cheaper and new like SHEIN you guys are on their ass 24/7 whining about "sustainability" knowing damn well half their closet is filled with child labour too, that phone their holding is also not sustainable and their car also isnt sustainable. People need to mind their own business and stop whining over people who opt for fast fashion because their privileged and CAN afford to drive too a thrift store, to DIY etc... Its insensetive and annoying. I can state so many more issues with this but i can't because this post is already so long.
Normalize calling out performative apathy.
Pero para sa maraming tao, politics is not entertainment or online drama, it's survival.
Hindi moral high ground ang disengagement. Hindi ikinaka-mature ang pagiging indifferent. Sa panahon ngayon, mas nakakahiya yung walang pakialam kaysa sa taong willing makialam at manindigan.
