the ending of sunset was pretty cool. hawkfrost was an interesting character to me, and had a neat death. I think it's also really cool that Brambleclaw may always be haunted by his kin. I hope so, anyway, cuz that's some dark shit, and the entirety of the second arc of anp followed his care for hawkfrost. he always knew to be suspicious of him, but he didn't want to be, he still loved him anyway, more than any of their other siblings. he wanted a life where they could be friends, act like brothers- like brambleclaw and tawnypelt. maybe even closer.
but in the end, he ended up being the one with hawkfrosts blood on his paws and his spirit following behind.
whatever choice he made, it would've ended in death. there was no winning situation; brambleclaw would've always lost something important to him.
the ending is rapid. it doesn't feel like peace, not with hawkfrosts last warning- he didn't act alone. and brambleclaw, alone, knows this.
you don't get an epilogue this time around, either. it just is. it doesn't feel like anybody won. good triumphed, but at a real cost to our protagonist.
