Tip for people who have a hard time reading, but don't want to read aloud to themself
Try reading along with the audio book if there is a version available. It's something I have been doing for years now. And while I am good at reading, I process a lot of stuff better when I have multiple forms of input.
At first I was told to try reading out loud, and yeah it works. But it can be hard when you come across a name or a word you honestly don't know how to pronounce, or if you are in a public place and don't want to be that person muttering to themselves or have people come up and ask you to stop. (Which has happend a few times to me and it is so embarrassing)
No one thinks much if a person with headphones on these days. So it's easy to turn in the book and read at the same time. Since I started doing this, my retention has gone up so much. And if you have a good narator who does all the voices really well, it gives the story so much life.
It's like having an audio book with subtitles.
I didn't realize untill yesterday that some people might not know this trick, untill I was talking to my boss who looked at me like I revolutionized his world. Soni thought I would share with others.
