Writing Tip #4: Reading Your Work
I'm in the point of my editing process where I'm going through and reading it. Many people tell you to not edit while you are writing.
You start getting caught up in the small picture, that you lose the big picture. I did that, and dropped one of my plot threads. Had to go back and rewrite three chapters. Not fun, frustrating, and you lose time (for those of you on a time constraint).
As you are reading your work, look at it through the eyes of someone who is reading it for the first time, or even hasn't read your genre before. It is difficult to do, especially if you have build up a world and know your entire character's history or if there is a big secret. We often know what's going to happen, so it is hard when we have to make sure those little details that need to be hidden remain hidden.
