Wrapped Up in Lies: The Adventures of Ms. Fortune is Book 1 in a comedic historical fiction series. The story takes place during the 1920’s as the quirky, yet helplessly likable, Emma Fortune is in search of the adventure of a lifetime. After discovering an ancient treasure map, Emma decides to throw caution to the wind and put everything she has learned from the Cambridge Adventurers Society into practice.
She first finds herself in Petra, Transjordan, in hot pursuit of an ancient treasure…or so she thought. Once the Sheik discovers her purpose for being there, Emma is placed in a position where she has no choice but to, literally, hang on for dear life. Luckily, her time in Petra came to a close with Emma finding “true wealth”—namely, her ornery camel, Lumpy.
Fortunately for Ms. Fortune, her rightful adventure was just around the next sand dune. As much as she would hate to admit it, Dash Darling was the catalyst for the greatest adventure she could have ever hoped for. Dash was sent from the Egyptian Department of Antiquities to recruit Emma for an elaborate marketing ploy set forth by the Museum in an attempt to bring wealthy tourists to the area. Despite the obvious moral issues of the assignment, Emma could not turn away from such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity—being paid to travel through Egypt and ‘recreate’ history…what girl wouldn’t jump at a chance like that! Emma and her crew (Dash, Alistair, Khalid, Ali, Amira, and the camels) left Cairo prepared to pull off the greatest hoax Egypt has ever seen.
But, of course, Egypt means mummies, and mummies mean curses – which, as it turns out, Emma and the group are not immune to. The trials and tribulations of their journey are hilarious, quirky, and full of fun. Between Emma’s clumsy antics, feisty banter with Dash, and more than a few (shall we say…) hairy situations, Wrapped Up in Lies: The Adventures of Ms. Fortune is overflowing with personality. It truly does have a little bit of something for everyone: humor, history, mystery, romance, and an out of the ordinary adventure. This series has no choice but to be a guilty pleasure on everyone’s bookshelf. It has definitely become one that I will reach for when I want a fun read that is guaranteed to put a smile on my face. I recommend this book to teens, young adults and adults alike.
P.S. Rumor has it that the sequel will be hitting Amazon in the near future, just saying…
