Today I was sitting in detention (which I rarely do) because I was late to 1st period. So I grabbed my book, sat down and started to read. The security lady then tells me, very rudely, that I’m not allowed to read and to put my book away. I told her, “no” in a very calm voice and she looked so shocked that I had refused her request. She then went on to ask me if I thought I was better than everyone else and that I should be aloud to read. I responded that I feel everyone should be aloud to read instead of wasting an hour of their life. I proceeded to tell her I value my time and again I won’t put away my book. She then sent me to the vice principal. I arrived at his office and he asked me why I was sent there. I told him what had happened and he replied,”She sent you here for reading? You can sit in one of these chairs and read for the rest of the period.”
I stood up for something that I felt was unjust and I’m happy I did so. It’s something really small but makes me smile when I think about it.
