May Monthly TBR
April was actually a pretty good month! I’m happy with the number of books and comics I was able to read. It’s a miracle. May might get busier near the end of the month for me, but I’m hoping #BoutofBooks will offset that for me. In fact, I’ll stick this in here now and consider it my sign-up post:
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the…

April Is The Month I Finally #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks
The end of the month is when I usually write a book haul post, which everyone expects and which I usually write out of a sense of obligation. Instead of doing the same old same old, I’ve decided to challenge myself and go on a month-long book-buying ban and also participate in the #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks challenge (I believe it was started at Estella’s Revenge). I decided to do this because last…

March Monthly TBR
I did not read as much as I was hoping in February. Shocking, I know. In fact, I’ve only finished 4 books so far this year (and I’m behind in my monthly recap posts). But one of those books was the 730-ish paged Alexander Hamilton, and the #HamAlong was delightful, so no regrets.
March, I am sure, will be more varied.
From top to bottom:
Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler– Because I need some…

February Monthly TBR
I didn’t read as much as I wanted to in January. I mean, I kind of did because I read about half of damn Alexander Hamilton plus three other books, but still. And I’m SO behind in my comic reading, it’s a shame.
But then I said to myself: “So create an even BIGGER pile for February!” Logical, I am not. But who knows.
From the top…
Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon– Already 25% through this,…

I’m sitting indian style on the wooden floor in front of my sister’s busted, beloved laptop which she will take with her once she dorms. *tear* (more for the laptop than for the little sister, she’s ok). My knees and ankles ache but it feels worth it to finish up that @wintertangerine piece though I didn’t submit it. It’s for Reshaping the Bell Jar and they actually, thankfully, extended it to the 30th. Submittable can be found here.
I like my work but it needs editing and maybe one more page to add. I”m not even sure if it’s prose or a poem. It can honestly go either way. And the format is unconventional but I really enjoy it. I want to add more. I think I can stretch it out more too. And it needs a new title. I will have a second draft ready by the 23rd, so are there any mutuals who are willing to critique it? Specifically between the 24th - 29th? I’m always happy to look at your work as well.
Anyway, I’m not touching it til Monday to give us some space and because I have to do the following this weekend:
Watch at least 25 monologues, no longer than five minutes, preferably 2-3 minutes. If anyone has any suggestions of some good ones to watch, let me know!
Participate in @prettybooks‘ 2016 classics challenge, sign up, and read The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera, and participate in the social media chat, hopefully.
Also sign up and do the #24in48 readathon. That’s 24 hours of reading in 48 hours - the 16th - 17th. I have no clue if I have the willpower and disclipine to do it but hopefully I can!
Anddd sign up and do #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks challenge.
Ten #books to read for the #24in48 #bookathon this weekend and here they are: boring boring boring boring boring boring boring by #zachplague, #bluets by #maggienelson, teddy: the protector of children by #dangoh, the unbearable lightness of being by #milankundera for the #2016classicschallenge, empty chairs by #liuxia and translated by #mingdi and #jenniferstern, the Descartes highlands by #ericgamalinda, #hopelesssavages break by #jenvanmeter, #meredithmcclaren, and #christinenorrie, book girl and the famished spirit by #mizukinomura, and her blue body and teaching my mother how to give birth by @wu_shire aka #warsanshire. 3 books of #poetry, two #graphicnovels, a book of essays, and 4 wide ranging #novels. Solid #tbrpile and hopefully I will do a lot of reading this weekend. In addition to writing that monologue. That's hopefully it. I haven't signed up yet to any of the challenges because I want to launch my book review Wordpress first, which I've been saying for years, but hopefully I'll write a review for charlyne yi's oh the moon, an intro and bio, and make a satisfactory layout. I will do it this week dammit. I'm tired of wasting opportunity and my potential. 27 is too old to wait for your dreams to come true, for a shining knight to rescue you. Save and adore yourself. The world will thank you for it. #readmyowndamnbooks

5. Write up my monologue for Call for Monologues and Art: In Full Color. Basically you have to be a woman of color and write one, then if you are chosen, you get to perform it or they can pair an actress with you if you don’t act. I’m definitely the latter. It’s due Monday and I have a topic and someone to direct it to. I’m excited and I even teared up in anger at what I wanted to say to them. It’s going to cut close but the best writing always does. Maybe I am a confessional writer haha.
That’s the main stuff. Other tasks to be done but if I cross those off, I’m good.
Have a great weekend!
Any monologue suggestions to read or watch would be great! Do you have any?

Currently: Harmattan in a New Year, Bookish Goals and Reading Challenges
Afenhyiapa! Happy New Year y’all. It’s 9:30am in Accra. The lights have been on everyday since the December 2015 holidays and I’ve given up anticipating/calculating the return of Dumsor the Dread. The Harmattan season is upon us here in West Africa. (For those unfamiliar with Harmattan, it’s a December-to-March season of coldish, dry and dusty winds that sweep down West Africa from the Sahara…
