February 2026 TBR--

February is going to be a much calmer reading month for me. I still want to hit my three goals for the month, but I won't be reading nearly as many books as I did in January. The Emily Henry will cover my year long challenge to read a book with an adaptation and then watching the adaptation later in that same month. My second and lower tier challenge is to read one book per month that I had previously requested an ARC from NetGalley for and been rejected. I'm calling it my NetGalley Rejected Me Challenge. The last goal I have is to keep the TBR short so I can get books from the library as the mood strikes. Let's get into the TBR.

Everyone in This Bank is a Thief by Benjamin Stevenson (NetGalley)-- I'm so happy I was given access to this ARC. I've read every Ernest Cunningham mystery so far and I'm looking forward to this one. A bank heist? Multiple bank heists? I'm so ready. Ernest Cunningham is held hostage when a robber comes to pull a heist in the bank he's in. The doors are chained shut. No one in or out. Which means that when someone in the bank is murdered, hostages become suspects. Turns out, more than one person planned to rob the bank today. Who is stealing what? Are they willing to kill for it? And can Ernest solve the crime before the police kick down the door?

Codename Charming by Lucy Parker (Library)-- This is the book I chose for my NetGalley Rejected Me Challenge. Petunia De Vere enjoys being the personal assistant to Johnny Marchmont but the job has its share of challenges, including the royal's giant, intimidating bodyguard, Matthias. Pet and Matthias are polar opposites but she can send there's something soft underneath that tough exterior. For Matthias Vaughn, keeping his royal charge out of trouble is more difficult than he imagined because everywhere Johnny goes, calamity ensues, and his assistant is often caught in the fray. When a clumsy moment leads to a questionable tabloid photo, the press begins to speculate that Pet is romantically involved with Johnny. To put an end to the rumors, the royal PR team asks Pet and Matthias to stage a fake relationship.

A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher (Library)-- Fourteen-year-old Mona isn't like the wizards charged with defending the city. Her familiar is a sourdough starter and her magic only works on bread. But her life is turned upside down when she finds a dead boy on the bakery floor. An assassin is stalking the streets of Mona's city, preying on magic folk and Mona is his next target.

An Academic Affair by Jodi McAlister-- Sadie Shaw and Jonah Fisher have been academic rivals since their undergrad in the literature department 13 years ago. Now a highly coveted teaching opportunity has come up and their rivalry hits epic proportions. Jonah needs the job to move closer to his recently divorced sister and her children, while Sadie needs the financial security it offers. When Sadie notices the job offers partner hire, however, she hatches a plot to get them both the job.

Rogue Protocol by Martha Wells-- This is next up for my reread of the Murderbot Diaries before the new book comes out later this year. The case against GrayCris is floundering and people are wondering where Dr. Mensah's SecUnit is.

Exit Strategy by Martha Wells-- Murderbot has traveled the galaxy to unearth details of GrayCris Corporation and is heading home to help Dr. Mensah submit evidence that could prevent GrayCris from destroying more colonists in its never-ending quest for profit.

The Door-to-Door Bookstore by Carsten Henn-- This was gifted to me by my husband's aunt who knows I love books and reading. She had read it for her in person book club and sent me a copy after. This is a translated book about an elderly bookseller who delivers his recommendations door-to-door and his unexpected friendship with a nine year old girl that changes his life.

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry-- Poppy and Alex have nothing in common and yet somehow ever since they had a fateful ride share home from college many years ago they're the best of friends. For most of the year they live apart, but every summer for a decade they have one glorious week long vacation together. Until two years ago when they ruined everything. They haven't spoken since. Poppy is in a rut and decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together. Now she has a week to fix everything.
