WTF HE MADE ADAM A MIX TAPE!!!!
Raven Cat + Raven King
My rarest of rare ships has to be Noah/Blue. Anyone else? Anyone else at all ship this?
When Adam's mouth quirked, Ronan's expression stilled for a moment before turning to the loose smile he ordinarily reserved for Matthew's silliness. Adam felt a surge of both accomplishment and nerves. He skated an edge here. Making Ronan Lynch smile felt as charged as making a bargain with Cabeswater. These weren't forces to play with.
The Raven King, Maggie Steifvater
I went on a brief tumblr hiatus while reading The Raven King just in case I came across any spoilers, but I’ve finished it now so I’m back. And after a whole month of being submerged in that series, I have come out the other side and all I can currently say is that I loved it with all my heart.
And that I can’t wait to reread it next year ❤
I am trying to write a review for The Raven King that’s completely spoiler-free and now, twenty minutes after I’ve started, it is sitting in my drafts like nobody’s business, not because I cannot talk about it without spoiling it - I honestly could, surprisingly enough - but because I can’t.
The words.
The words are everywhere.
But I will say this:
Read The Raven King.
Seriously.
Read The Raven Cycle.
Until I get my head on straight and my thoughts even straighter, I leave you with that.
Read TRK. Read TRC. Just. Read it. Okay? Trust me on this one.
I FINALLY HAVE TRK IN MY PERSON
Okay so just before we get into this post of mine, let me tell you something. I actually started this post months ago - apparently, four months before April, so roundabout December/January, but am just posting this now before I start reading TRK because I’m lazy af... Here we go:
So basically, two hours after finishing BLLB, I have been looking up Owen Glendower and looking for parallels which I'm almost positive will exist between history and TRC because time is not - *draws a straight line* - but rather, is more like - *draws a circle in the air*.
I was not disappointed, although, I am very unsatisfied. Did I find parallels? Possibly. Did I find answers? Doubtedly.
Anyway.
Because my brain is very near to implosion, let's share notes. Thank you, Wikipedia, for being a fount of knowledge at 7am when I'm barely awake.
• I still think that Gansey is Glendower. I don't know how but did you know that Glendower was once believed to have disguised himself? When everybody believed him dead, there were whispers that he had disguised himself by not hiding. He lived as a friar with his daughter and her family.
• Glendower is also a character in Shakespeare's Henry IV where he was described "as being not in the roll of common men and a worthy gentleman, exceedingly well read, and profited in strange concealments; valiant as a lion, and wondrous affable; and as bountiful as mines of India [Henry IV, Part I, Act 3, Scene i]."
• Maybe that rings any bells. Maybe it doesn't. Okay.
• Another very interesting parallel is Glendower's so called 'one-time follower. Adam of Usk.
• Wikipedia says, "Adam of Usk, a one-time supporter of Glyndŵr, made the following entry in his Chronicle under the year 1415: "After four years in hiding, from the king and the realm, Owain Glyndŵr died, and was buried by his followers in the darkness of night. His grave was discovered by his enemies, however, so he had to be re-buried, though it is impossible to discover where he was laid.""
• Now obviously we can see a very glaring coincidence with a certain dead, glitter loving, previously Aglionby boy.
What I failed to find, however, - and this is really annoying me, because I had expected Ronan of all people to have a glaring parallel but noooooo - is a parallel between Ronan and the history. Like. This is the only thing I found that may or may not be related:
• Ronan is a male Celtic name that apparently means, “Oath”.
• That sounds ominously close to the ley line being a promise and not a guarantee but what do I know?
• Also, did you know that Monmouthshire is a place in Wales?
I didn’t because I’m horrible at Geography and it sucks because I’ve been to Wales twice now and there’s so many places I still haven’t been too yet and ughhh
