ReadyCare Makes a Difference One Shower at a Time

 When times get tough, it can make a world of difference knowing there is somewhere you can go for the support you need to make it through to the other side. This is the core concept behind Father Woody’s Haven of Hope, a Denver-based nonprofit dedicated to helping homeless individuals take care of their basic needs. Secular Franciscans Larry Gosselin and Baldemar Garza purchased the original Haven of Hope headquarters, an 800-square-foot, 100-year-old house, back in 2003, where they provided 50 to 60 guests per day with a variety of services to help make the load a little lighter, from laundry and showers to hot meals and haircuts. Jay Gould, who joined the Franciscans in 2004, eventually became the president of the organization and worked each day to help it grow.

As time went by, the number of benefactors supporting Father Woody’s grew to over 1,500, and Gosselin, Garza, and Gould were able to open a new 5,700-square-foot facility in 2007.  This new property is able to serve between 500 and 600 individuals per day, and has added more important services, such as medical testing, over-the-counter medications, internet access, and distribution of on-the-go hygiene packs to serve the Denver-area homeless community.

The mission of the organization is to carry on the legacy of its namesake, Father Woody, a renowned Denver priest and former editor of the Denver Catholic Register who has been widely recognized for his humanitarian efforts. Gosselin and Garza named their day shelter after Father Woody not only to honor his good works with the homeless community, but to pay tribute to his lifelong goal to make people care about those who are less fortunate through the power of journalism.

ReadyCare Industries is proud to support Father Woody’s Haven of Hope by donating personal care essentials such as shampoo, conditioner, razors, feminine hygiene products and body wash each month, at no charge, to support the endeavors of the organization. And to make the shower experience a pleasant one, ReadyCare has also created and  installed custom shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers in the facility’s private shower areas, helping up to 60 people per day enjoy a hot, refreshing shower.
