Screams! Dj Colayshan joins Real FM Saint Lucia

There are just a few more hours until DJ Colayshan makes her debut to Saint Lucian radio, and her mission is to deliver THE JUMP-OFF on an afternoon drive time slot (2pm – 5pm) on 91.3fm (north) and 91.5fm (south).

Colayshan announced last week via instagram that she had joined #TeamRealFm after recently moving back to Saint Lucia from Saint Martin.

Thrust into the entertainment spotlight at a young age, Shurma St. Clair swam and never sank. Early, she became known on the club scene as none other than the versatile and formidable ‘ColayShan’ – but things were not always that way. She recalls securing gigs even when she was less experienced, much due to others seeing and believing in her talent. Seventeen years later she says her biggest accomplishment is the strength she’s developed as a woman in every aspect. 

Born in St. Lucia, ColayShan spent her early years in Dutch St.  Maarten where she pursued a career in accounting. Her love for music secured her a spot on the radio airwaves, and later, she became a regular on rosters of the most popular night clubs on the Caribbean island. Known best for her commanding voice and playful MC jives, ColayShan attributes her mixed cultures for her now established sound.

Inspired by ‘great women whether in the music industry or not’, ColayShan aspires to be the most talented female DJ in the world. In a fierce industry where image sometimes pays more than talent, she’s determined to be recognized for skill, above all else. 

Recently, the SXM seasoned DJ returned to Saint Lucian shores. She’s currently working on building her network as a DJ. Prior to her big move, she worked with some of the Caribbean’s biggest acts, as well as international artistes such as Sean Paul, Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Shaggy, Everton Blender, I-Wayne, Spice, Allison Hinds, Taurus Riley, Ninja Man, DMX, Akon, Bow Wow and many others.

If not music, ColayShan would be a spokesperson for women. Her goal, even through music, is to shift perspectives and inspire people to live their best lives. Soon, she hopes to participate in more regional carnivals, including that of Saint Lucia and Trinidad, as well as travel and explore the possibilities of becoming a full time DJ.
