Hoping for Independence on the Independence Day!
What is there to celebrate when your own people are dying daily? What is there to cherish if poor are suffering day in day out? What is there to enjoy the national day if the country is going downhill on every count from Economy to Sports, from mounting debts to foreign policy status and from healthcare to basic safety and security of citizens? None I guess…
We are still the master of our own destiny! And only if a few significant independences are achieved through progressive legislation forced by our own public pressure, starting from this freedom day, we can turn the tide!
Judiciary: I wish on this independent day the Judiciary gets independent. I hope the chains of compromise and political alignments are broken. I hope for once the Judiciary of Pakistan understands the mammoth responsibility of justice that God has put on their shoulders for the sake of this suffering nation. I hope they give up all fears and follow God’s commandments on justice mentioned in Quran. The nation is too poor, too innocent and too caught up with basic subsistence that they can’t even exert pressure on Judiciary to decide justly, timely and truthfully keeping only Allah’s directives and nations’ future in mind. If this happens, this will be true independence for Pakistan
Election Commission: I wish on this Independence Day the Election Commission gets independent. I pray that the chains of political interference, favors and counter favors, complacency and aversion to use new technology are broken this summer. I really want that the commission realize that the long term well-being of this nation is dependent on holding just one ruthless, fearless, free and fair election as it will change everything. I wish this independence day the culture of true accountability of political leaders begins through nation’s power of vote. If this happens this will be the true independence for Pakistan
Financial Institutions: I wish on this Independence Day that State Bank and FBR get independent. The chains of political compromise, discrimination in favor of the riches, fake statistics, poor monetary policy and foreigners-dictated fiscal strategy are broken. I really wish the State Bank hires from the great professional pool of financial gurus, bankers and accountants that Pakistan produces worldwide. I pray for once FBR is powerful enough to collect taxes from every single Industrialist, feudal lords and any other rich man who hasn’t been paying his due. I hope for first time NAB has enough guts to put all tax avoiders in the jail. We have millions of poor families living under poverty line for ages, I hope on this 14th August our financial institutions realize their actual role for the progress of Pakistanis and acquire independence to deliver on it. This will be true independence for Pakistan.
Regulators: I wish on this Independence Day various other regulators attain freedom. I hope they become independent in their policies for the best interest of the country. They hire the best professional people from the amazing technically talented Pakistanis working across the globe. Regulators like PEMRA, OGRA, NEPRA, SECP, PSQCA etc. become independent in their pursuits of real regulations, real checks and balances for the betterment of the people of Pakistan. I hope and wish they realize the great responsibility that has been put on their shoulders to improve the quality of life of an ordinary citizen in Pakistan whose halaal income pays their salaries. If that happens, this will be the true independence for Pakistan.
Independence is not just freedom to hoist your national flag at your rooftop or flaunt a green badge on your front pocket on the national day, it is to ensure that all resources of the country work together freely to ensure the progress of Pakistan. If all national institutions work freely, professionally and without any chains and political influences, there is no reason they cannot ensure that ordinary Pakistanis see the transformation in their lives with progress, development, better opportunities and better quality of lives for everyone. This is where the true spirit of independence will materialize and true fruits of freedom will be available for Pakistanis to savor. This will be true independence. I hope today is the day we start this journey.
