Slime Avery head cannon :)
I'm gonna be blunt first to get this across easier lol
Okay first head cannon: Slimes in a more realistic Minecraft can merge back together if not all murdered, and they're technically a family?? All a collective??? Something like that, either or. Maybe both!
Now for the actual Avery head cannon! He's a sentient slime or a slime hybrid, and in DAWTDE we learn that he's gotta be some level of alone when NO ONE checked on him for fifteen hours on new years eve.
Sooooo putting those all together, what if he's just miserable all the time because he doesn't have his family/collective that all slimes are meant to have? Constantly feeling a sense of wrong that no amount of animals or mindless villagers could fix. He'd crave contact he couldn't find no matter how much he wanted it.
Now imagine that's why he was so stuck on Derek. Derek was the first other person who really actually CARED enough to look out for him. Sure he had fans from his skywars stuff, but none of them ever wanted to know him. But Derek? Derek gave him hope and looked out for him when no one else did.
