MLP ponies except they're realistic ^^ I loved picking out the coat colors and doing this little equine pose study. If this gets enough notes I'll do the other three of the mane six :) I'm no pony expert but I think they're cute!
Something that has always pissed me off just a little bit with MLP artists (and horse artists) is drawing adult ponies as “dapple greys” like this horse below vvv
I’ve mostly seen this trend with people drawing either regular horse ocs, or mlp with realistic horse coats.
My clarification for you all, is that this is a transitionary coat color caused by genetic mutation that results in horses ‘greying’ over time. Its actually a pretty common thing nowadays and is genuinely really interesting!! Grey horses can be born as basically Any coat color (ex. below (With the mamma who’s a good example of a full grey alongside the baby!)) but over time they progressively grow a white coat! the ‘dappled’ stage is the pattern of progression for the new white coat overtaking the base coat color.
Now why does this bother me so much? Primarily because this coat pattern is like. A teenage horse thing (not exactly but I’ll extrapolate.) Horses are considered fully grown by the time they’re 5-8 depending on their breed; the greying process takes around 10 years generally. So making full grown horse/pony designs that have this color are genetically unrealistic.
I know this is an “um actually” moment on my part and its not actually something that matters, especially in oc creation because obviously pink/blue/green equine ocs exist and im not critiquing those, but I feel like i needed to put at least a little clarification out there because i haven’t seen anyone else bring it up.No hate to ppl with dappled horse ocs either lol.
Junicorn #15: Jam or jelly One more try at a different, somewhat realistic, style for MLP ponies. These are the brothers Flim and Flam (probably my favorite unicorns from the show...)
