Today marks the day that my lay off with an unknown recall date becomes effective, Ironically enough this week I got my new licence book sticker with my Boeing 767 type rating that’ll never be used now 😂. What is next ? I have no clue. That is most definitely a work in progress. Of which I haven’t the slightest idea, I am still working through whether I am staying in Toronto or coming back to the west coast. I usually have some positive or inspirational quote - but let’s have some #RealTalkWithMatt today, I think it can be summed up with what I tell people when I get asked if being a pilot is a career is something they should go after or not. Don’t get into flying as a career. Get a real education, and with that - a real career. Preferably in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), those fields are in demand and offer much more stable lifestyles and if flying is something you still want to do after all that-than be prepared for a lot of sacrifice and career instability. Or better yet you can buy your own plane for fun or enrich yourself so that YOU are the one chartering the private jets while you get sloshed in the back on the way to tropical destinations while the poor charter pilot up front only has a few hard days off a month. This career has far too many sacrifices and unknowns to make it viable and worthwhile. I sure as hell wish i would of taken my own advice or the similar advice that others gave me when i started into this career initially in helicopters than the airplane side of things 14 years ago.
