Lurking in Reanimator Coffee in NoLibs Philly today. I am recommending this book by Chris Baty. It's absolutely hilarious so far, and is providing a lot of good advice on getting out of your own head, and not waiting for age, maturity, enlightenment, or life experience to get going with your writing. IN IT TO WIN IT. I write all the time, but have recently recognized that I have a problem finishing these elaborate projects. I love the research, notes, scene writing, and conversations with my characters. I love WORLD Building. I don't have any problems with plot, or dialogue, or atmosphere, or plot twists, or even with showing (not telling), but I DO NOT like the task of stitching it all together until it has a spine and is walking around like some ungodly zombie word caterpillar, and I am having trouble with the up and down movement of the story arc. I checked out a stack of books to skim through so I can try to _get_ it. Once that clicks, I figure it will be a cakewalk. I'm working on another project I loved, and my character was amazing and funny and spontaneous when she was an unbridled bitch. The moment I edited it and tried to give her depth and meaning, she collapsed and is refusing to speak to me. I completely messed her up by trying to give a soulless mean girl a soul, and now I need to figure out how to fix her. 😒 #inittowinit #reanimatorcoffee #coffeetime #writersofinstagram #writerproblems (at Reanimator Coffee)
