My brain took a running leap and elbow-dropped onto my gut earlier today with transgender man Kanan Jarrus. Caleb Dume on puberty blockers during the Clone Wars (one of the reasons he’s so tall now), either having them on him when he had to flee or trying to find under the table clinics on Kaller. Complicated feelings about his hair growing out on the run because the only style he knows for long hair was Depa’s. Janus Kasmir tells him to just slick it back in a nerftail and he never changes that style ever again.

Gunslinger Kanan getting his hands on T all over the galaxy, and sometimes that just means paying a doctor, and sometimes it means dealing with other smugglers, and at least once the damn dealer lies about the kind of near-human species its for and Hera’s ready to rip the sleemo to shreds when Kanan gets sick. The rebellion provides his first reliable access to gender affirming medical care since the Jedi Order fell, and wow does he have some complicated feelings about that.

I think this’d dovetail nicely into a verse with genderfluid, transfem Ezra Bridger; more inter-generational trans friendships and mentorships, please.

I love being consciously aware that what I want out of fic and what I want out of canon are so very different, and that nothing is set in stone, because it means I can just tell myself “this out of characterness is an element of the AU” and continue writing instead of tying myself in knots trying to make it in character.

I don’t think Preboot Jason would ever give up killing as a tool, I don’t think canon Tim would happily date someone he knows does that, I don’t think Bruce is a good dad or even capable of being one without a level of therapy I cannot imagine him committing to long term.

I can’t see Kanan boinking Ezra during canon but I think they became each other’s Most Important Person very quickly and exploring the variations on that is fun. I hated how canon handled time travel but I adore the idea of Ezra falling through a portal to the end of the Clone Wars and romancing Rex.

Fandom vast, contain multitudes.

Ezra should have had years of proto-heats, time to get used to the affects on his body and mind before reaching the pheromone levels necessary to trigger ruts. Time to get over his crush, find partners or suppressants.

Kanan's never been good at interpreting what his instinctive responses mean, just how to keep them in check or let them loose as needed. It shouldn't matter what they mean, as long as he can control them, right?

Too bad for both of them that the Inquisitorius wants to cross Force-sensitive bloodlines and doesn't care about pesky little things like maturity or consent.
