Types of Recluse

As I see it, there are four basic “types” of recluse. I will list them now for your edification.

1. The Old Money Recluse. This person is simply ridiculously wealthy, always has been, and simply doesn’t need others around because all she needs is her money for company.

2. The Faded Glory Recluse. Often a former Old Money Recluse, this person was perhaps beautiful and famous in a previous life, and even though all the money is gone, old habits remain, and leeches will not be tolerated, even though there is nothing left to leech.

3. The Suburban/Small Town Recluse. The traditional “scary old man in the broken-down house” type. Nobody ever goes to his house to trick-or-treat, deliver a newspaper, or retrieve a Frisbee, and that’s the way he likes it.

4. The Shack in the Woods Recluse. Often reputed to be witches or seers, these recluses hate other people so much they have moved as far away as possible from them all.
