Yesterday I put a sealing coat over everything, I used MacKenzie & Steward - Isle of Sky Waterborne Semi Gloss Polyurethane that we had in the house from when I was working on finishing the stairs. It coated everything fairly nicely, and dried quickly where I got two coats on and can start filling it today!
The one thing I didn’t expect though was on one side it seemed to have either taken off or thinned some of the paint revealing some of the underneath sharpie that was completely covered beforehand. This section covering the sharpie (planet on the upper left and the top masses in space) had been done and dried for at least/maybe even over a week beforehand too.
For reference, this post has photos of the whole thing beforehand.
It also seems to have done this on the topmost side of the stand. However it didn’t do this on any other side of the stand (and I used a mix of the same paints throughout the whole thing; Liquitex Basic Acrylics, Apple Barrel Colors Craft Paint - plaid (acrylic), Outdoor Indoor Gloss Acrylic Paint, Deco Art Patio Paint, and Rust-oleum Semi-Gloss Latex Paint (for the trim, inner sides, and underneath). I think to fix it I’ll just go over it with a little more paint, and re-coat that section with the varnish.
I mean this is my first attempt doing something like this (and varnishing over acrylics) so it’s a learning experience. Overall despite this little setback I’m happy with the outcome!
