The Drum Box

Going to be pitching a product to investors soon.  An amazing box I’m working on called the Drum Box.  

There’s a larger number of at-home producers in the world than ever before.  The music industry has gone to the hands of the amateurs at home with an ipad.  

Its simple to lay great tracks on the piano, guitar, and voice.  What’s still missing is drums.  There are only 2 options for good drums, and the second still isn’t very good:

1.  Set up a real drum set in an acoustically perfect space.  Mic each drum and spend insane amounts of time getting the levels perfect.

2.  Use a VST (virtual instrument) within a DAW.  There are decent sounding drum VST’s (if you know of any great free and paid ones reply to this post with the links) but at the end of the day they’re vst’s.  Digital.  Real drums died when they went digital.  Picture the first drums at ancient rituals.  that bass hit is what they were created for.  Digital can’t capture all the frequencies that you feel from a drum hit. 

Solution: A physical box that is mic’d at a number of built-in locations.  Each location is a part of the box that has some type of surface that when it’s hit with your hand, it will have the sound of a drum in a studio.  Test 100′s of materials and objects until perfect snares and hi hats are discovered.  Also a kick drum.  Could be a hand pad or a kick pedal attached that hits in front of a microphone capturing the lower frequencies similar to a concert kick.
