Important Information - updated 8/6/26
This side blog is run by: @slenbee
Note: Before submitting an ask/submission for a 'new scam', please check out the index and/or also search for what you might need via [tumblr]'s handy dandy 'search' function found on this blog, thanks!
The Scam Index is right here!👈<- click this link!
Within the Scam Index you will find a wide variety of related content made to help users (like yourself!) identify scams, and learn how they work. Included in the index is every Scam Exam(ination) post I've made, as well as a collection of very helpful Tips and Tricks!
This includes: how to reverse image search, how to identify a scam blog, how to see if a blog is a scammer via reblogs, how to report phishing websites and email addresses, and so much more!
If you want to learn about a scam, the index is where you want to go!
I also suggest checking out (and sharing!) the "scams to bee aware of" post which has a collection of pretty much all of the well known scams going around at the moment. :) Helping others learn about scams and how to avoid them is a beeutiful thing to do!
Helpful guides on spotting scams v4. (by @kyra45)
Notable blogs to follow:
@kyra45 - If it's a scam, she's usually got a post on it. :) @u-reblogged-a-scam - Another scam identifying blog. @ai-art-thieves - Scams + AI busting? Couldn't ask for a better blog.
Issues/topics you can ask me about:
You can send me questions or concerns about strange comments on your posts, random DM's, or weird asks users have sent you that you are not sure about being a scam or not. Again, please read the scam index at the top of this post, or utilize the search function this blog comes with. Otherwise, I will do my best to reply to them ASAP.
You can send me information on new scams I have not covered yet in a previous post. (as mentioned above please check the index first!)
You can submit asks/submissions regarding scams going around that have since changed or been altered, where scammers are using new tactics that I have not covered previously.
You can ask me about certain websites not related to a tumblr specific scam. All I ask though is to please try and do some basic research first by googling things such as: "what is a task scam" and "free nitro/gift card" scams before asking me about them!
General questions, silly interactions, funny posts, and stuff like that are always welcome. I don't bite, I promise. I might not have all the right answers, obviously, but I can definitely try to help you find resources. :)
Issues Topics not to ask me about
Please do not send me asks, submissions, or DM's related to:
Fundraiser accounts ie accounts with links to: chuffed, gofundme ect.
Why I'm asking this:
I am not in any position to validate any blog running a fundraiser I am also in no position to say they are or are not a scam.
Please read this post in regards to this recent change. Thank you.
Why this blog exists:
This blog is to serve as public documentation to any and all internet scams that have either been reported to this blog, or that I have encountered myself. Anyone can share my posts with others regardless of the platform they share it to (reddit, discord, facebook, ect). I will try to provide any and all evidence of how and why something listed here is a scam, so that others know what to look out for and avoid it. After all, not all heroes wear capes, and knowledge is power!
-----
What this blog Offers:
1. Gathered Evidence
Evidence I will try to provide in my posts will include things such as:
Username changes in an attempt to make others think that they are a different/new person.
Images of them changing their 'real name' repeatedly.
Alternate accounts running the same exact scam.
Alternate accounts running different scams. (but the same scammer)
PayPal.me names that are being used with these accounts. (this is information they list themselves. Nobody is being doxed)
Sources of artwork (if found) if the scammer claims to be an artist.
2. Gathered Resources
With every Scam Exam(ination) I make detailing how a scam starts, what the red flags are to look out for, how the scam works, and what the end goal is. This is to help users learn how to avoid it, and if possible, ways to recover from it. If I've not covered the scam already myself via an Exam post, I will provide links to posts written by fellow tumblr users, and from trusted websites such as Bitdefender, fbi.gov, malwarebytes, reddit, and so on.
---- Final thoughts: Trust your gut. Do your research. Make sure to look up usernames and copy/paste asks into tumblr's search bar to see if other accounts are using the same story. Especially in the case of blogs asking for just paypal.
If you have doubts about the legitimacy of the asks you receive from people asking for mutual aid, I'd suggest checking out this post or this post by @el-shab-hussein. (someone who is Palestinian and is also well trusted amongst scam busters like @kyra45 and myself), which contains links to vetted/verified fundraisers for both Ghazzan families and Sudanese families. :)
