The Story Behind Recovery Design
Hello,
My name is Nazanin Varasteh and I'm from Tehran, Iran. I am in my final year of studying Business of Art and Design at Ringling College of Art and Design in Florida. I'm starting this blog because I want to share my biggest artistic/business endeavor with you.
Growing up, I enjoyed re-using stuff that were no longer serving their purpose and making new things with them. As a child it was more of a hobby and craft, but now that I've gotten to this point of my life, after all the experiences I have had, I have a bigger idea. Not only do I want to continue my path in the arts and to create, but I also want to take a stand and do something of greater value. I am a big advocate for environmental awareness and changing the way we treat our world. And here's where my two (or three) worlds collide.
I started using plastic waste, or any trash that can be repurposed to create luxury dresses. This is my way of bringing awareness about our waste and the way we are affecting the environment. My purpose is to point out the problems the world faces and bring them into a new context.
RecoveryDesign is about bringing awareness through recycling, reusing, or repurposing things that are considered trash or waste and creating luxury clothing, accessories, and installations from them. Things that could really damage the environment if they were released in it, like plastic. It's the earth going through "recovery" after everything that we've put it through.
Now I'm in the process of preparing my first fashion show featuring these clothes and accessories. This blog is my medium for sharing this adventure with you with the hopes to inspire some questions and new ideas. Thank you for your attention.
Nazanin
