My news writing professor put this quote on a power point a few weeks ago. Although he was relating this quote back to journalism and how to improve our writing, naturally in my mind only one subject seemed to pop up...
You see, it all relates back to the whole "show and tell" concept.
Anyone can simply tell a PNM how they have the best sisterhood because, "we all love each other sooooo much," or "we're all really great friends!"
How are PNM's suppose to make a decision when they hear the same thing at every house?!
Don't just tell a PNM what your sorority does; show them the opportunities your chapter provides to its members. Show them how they can only become a better version of themselves by joining your chapter.
Have an officer position? (You go Glen Coco-Leadership rocks!) What have you learned while holding office? Feel like you've grown up a little with your responsibilities? How so? Any personal achievements though out your term? What other ways can members get involved? How soon could that PNM get involved?
Think your sisterhood is the bomb? Share a s p e c i f i c story about you and your sisters that proves your point.
And don't hold back your laughter to get your story out! Show us that emotion!
Use your recruitment adrenaline and excitement to help express the emotion in your story.
The best way to prep for recruitment doesn't involve a steam iron or getting a mani-pedi. All you really need to do is take a few minutes and have some Thowback Thursday style thinking time. Don't wait until the day of recruitment, or even on-the-spot when you're with a PNM to think about what story you'll share. Go through your phone's camera roll, or your Facebook and Insta- you'll rediscover memories and special experiences you might have forgotten.
Now after doing so, just simply sit down with a sheet of paper, and write down all the things you wouldn't have experienced without your chapter. Think of all the memories that have made an impact, the support you've received, they family you've gained, and so on.
Help the PNM see from your point-of-view just how much you love your chapter and your sisters.
Help the PNM see how joining your organization would make their college experience that much better.
Help the PNM see themselves in your organization.
