How to Choose the Best Dining Tables Online
A modern dining table can be a fantastic feature in any home, but with the vast choice of sizes and shapes, shopping for dining tables online can be a little overwhelming. So, here we’ll explore how to choose the right table for your space.
Sizing
The first thing you need to assess is what size of dining table would be appropriate for your space. You will need to measure the available space in your room. Remember that you need to allow space for diners to sit down and get up from their seats easily. Ideally, you should leave a metre of space between the walls and your new table.
If you’re having difficulty visualising what space a table would occupy, try using newspapers or bedsheets to create a plan of how the room will look with the table in place. This will allow you to check if there is sufficient space to walk around the table and move the chairs.
You also need to consider that each person needs approximately 60 centimetres of space for eating. While you may be able to crowd an extra person or two on special occasions when you have more guests, you need to think about how many people will be using the table on a day to day basis.
Round Tables
Round dining tables are excellent for smaller spaces, as they can be fitted into tight spots without needing to worry about bumping into sharp corners. Round tables also tend to be able to accommodate more guests as there are no awkward corners. If you are struggling for space and need to seat more people, look for a pedestal base that eliminates the legs that may get in the way of chairs.
Generally, a pedestal base 1-metre diameter table can seat four, while you’d need a 120-centimetre table with legs to seat the same number. In the same way, a 150-centimetre diameter table may be able to accommodate four people if the table has legs, but six people with a pedestal base.
Obviously, the larger a round table, the more difficult it is to reach the centre, but you can add a lazy Susan to make it easier.
Rectangular Tables
Rectangular dining tables can work best in a narrow room, leaving more traffic flow. Generally, as the length increases, the width of a table also increases. So, when you’re looking at rectangular dining tables online, be sure to check both the length and width measurements. Generally, a 120-centimetre long table can seat four, while a 180-centimetre table can accommodate six.
If you are limited for space, you may prefer benches rather than chairs. This will allow you to tuck the bench under the table when not in use.
