Unique red drum spots on fishes.
Scientists believe the spots trick predators into attacking the tail instead of the head, allowing the fish to escape. Most red drum have one spot on each side, on or near the tail. Having no spots is extremely rare, but as the fish grow older, they seem to lose their excess spots.
