I will say Raph was always my favorite because I find him so relatable especially 12 and 03 I love those two versions of him

Ohh I love 03 Raph! His dynamic with Mikey is so fun. Well.. I guess I just love all 03 turtles…

I only watched a bit of 2012 and need to get back to that!

But I think my favourite Raph would be rise Raph… because he is the most relatable one for me :‘))

Sorry to be a bother, no need to answer if you don’t have the energy.

I really want to get into animation. Not for career reasons but just to bring some ideas to life for myself. But outside of a degree I have no idea how to get started.

I did a huge search for help on YouTube and nobody can even seem to agree on a program to get to start with.

Is going to a school for it the best option?

Are there any resources you recommend?

Hey! Don‘t worry, I hope I can help!

I studied animation, but honestly if you just want to do some things for fun, you can stilll do a lot by just practicing on your own!

What I‘d recommend when starting out is looking at the 12 principles of animation. Those can be really helpful for beginners and you can find a lot of videos about them on YouTube.

The first time I attempted animation it was actually on one of these really cheap drawing pads. You know the blank pages you can pull out where the paper is kind of see through? That was actually super helpful, because I started from the back, flipped a page over and then had an onion skin effect!

I don‘t know if you‘re working on a computer or on a tablet… the program really depends on what you want to do.

Right now I do all of my animations/animatics on my ipad.

If you just want to do a short one or two seconds clip you can do that with procreate! It has a super basic animation function and could be great for beginners to just try stuff out.

If you want to do some longer clips I‘d recommend FlipaClip. There should also be a free version of it as far as I know… if you want some more functions and tools I‘d recommend RoughAnimator, which is a bit more advanced.

I don‘t really have that much experience with current pc programs ):

The most important part is practice!

Just like drawing, it takes a while, but you will get better with time!

Some of the first exercises I had to do was draw the bouncing ball, make a character do a jump and then a walk cycle.

There is also the book „Animator‘s Survival Kit“! That might be helpful for beginners as well.
