Favourites of 2017: Claire Gledhill
Claire Gledhill can generally be found writing about some of the most interesting food offerings in Barcelona for publications like Miniguide (check an archive of older work here). Or posting wonderful photos here. I was very happy when she agreed to write about music and clubbing instead of food for once, and share her favourites of 2017!
1. Favourite new record of 2017
Red Greg - Movin
(Although technically could fall into the old category) was Red Greg's Movin released on Moton for 2017 record store day. An edit of Martha Reeves 1980 disco record 'Gotta Keep Moving'. I've played it repeatedly and still not got tired of it.
2. Favourite old record of 2017 (something you discovered for the first time in 2017)
Sandra Fever - If You Want It
Favourite old record is Sandra Feva's If you want it, released in 1978. It's the same age as me and I'm amazed it's passed me by for so long.
3. Favourite music related moment of 2017
Favourite music moment of the year was the 5 hour set Floating Points played at the monthly night 'Journeys' at Razzmatazz. Wonderful across the board set of house, techno, disco, jazz and much more, I didn't want to leave the dancefloor for a moment in anticipation of what he was going to play next. Journeys deserves a mention also for breaking a long period of not going clubbing. This was one of many great long sets I've heard there this year and the earlier DJ start is refreshing for those of us who struggle to wait until 3 or 4am to hear the main act. Looking forward to see who else they book in 2018.
Sunday Club* at The Pickle Factory with Conrad of Idjut Boys, Red Greg & Miro sundayMusiq
After the beautiful dance we had together at the last Sunday Club*, we plan to keep your dancing shoes moving. For November's movement, we are going deep.
One of our favourite remixers ever, the king of dubbiest dance music, and master of the chaos pad - Conrad of allmighty Idjut Boys headlines. Constantly touring in Japan and US makes him hard to reach and book, and he very rarely plays in London. But we booked him for you. Excited? So are we.
Another owner of magic hands will join us at our favourite club. The digging maestro himself, Red Greg is the don of disco, boogie and edits, constantly unearthing the forgotten classics that DJs crave. His marathon b2bs with Floating Points at his You're a Melody parties at Plastic People have longed passed into myth, and his Under the Influence compilation for Joey Negro’s ZR label is still close our hearts.
Usual conductor Miro is ready with his magic wand.
Inform your boss about Monday off, check your sweatbands.

Floating Points & Caribou - 7th September 2015
Dan Snaith aka Caribou joined Sam this week on NTS radio. check it out here:

Also, last night saw a London return for Sam’s You’re a Melody night following the closure of the much heralded Plastic People club. Here’s hoping they recorded it, as the last two mixes were probably the most defining mixes of the last 2 years.
