this is red koopa. hes from mario. hes different from green koopa. green koopa will walk off cliffs, but this guy wont. if you think about it a certain way his shell being a different color should have no affect on his ability to determine when a cliff is in front of him and turn around, but using a stark color difference like this informs the player of the variety of koopa theyre facing, relaying vital game information in an instant. this is a principle known as "conveyance" and is an important game design tool. you can learn more about this in youtube videos and stuff
