The two american lynx species face each other in the genus final; their habitat is largely overlaps which results in both competition and sometimes hybridization.

How comes the canada lynx is more closely related to the eurasian species than the one it shares the continent? America got its ancient lynxes from Asia in two waves: the first one became the bobcats or red lynxes, and later, a new population arrived to evolve into the canadian lynx.
