Q&A Lightwood-Banes
basket-full-of-dreams said: Sorry to bother you again, Cassie, but I have one more question regarding the Lightwood-Banes. Is there a chance we will see any scenes of Maryse and Robert interact with their grandsons in TEC? Robert’s death in LOS broke my heart and I’ve always been curious to know how he and Maryse were with those two precious boys? I know we saw them in BTEN with baby Max but now that he’s a toddler and Rafe is there too, I’d really love to see a scene between them all. Forever grateful 4 the ShadowWorld!
Aw, thank you! We will see Robert and Maryse with Max in The Lost Book of the White, yes! Maryse babysits for Max often, and Robert has a special pet name for him. (Rafe isn't around yet.) Robert's death was a tragedy for many reasons as we'll see in QoAaD, especially for Alec and Isabelle and Jace, but also because he missed out on seeing Rafe and Max grow up, and he only got to be Rafe's grandfather for a short while. Robert's life, of course, was also a tragedy to an extent: he made some awful choices, and he destroyed his relationship with his wife and his parabatai, and did serious damage to his relationship with his surviving children. But he did try, especially hard in later years as his children showed him a different way to live--and it's never too late to try. It doesn't excuse the harm he did, but he wanted to be a good dad, and a good Inquisitor. I would say that Max adored his grandpa, and in return Max was one of the great joys of Robert's life. There's a lesson in that: Robert who was so prejudiced in so many ways, finding in an innocent warlock child--a member of the people he once thought of as lesser--a light for his last years on earth. We are going to have a pretty significant Robert scene in The Land I Lost, coming your way in October! So stay tuned. ;)

新年快乐!
STOP TELLING ME TO LET YOU GO. IF YOU FALL I WANT TO FALL WITH YOU.
As much as Alec’s being Unlike Other Shadowhunters™️ (aka not an asshole) is part of why I love him, that scene where he threatens a mundane with a seraph blade in trsom? How he holds the blade so close to the guy’s throat that the guy’s clothes start to burn? I fucking love that scene
Alec: I think you wrote this
Magnus, internally: now he’s going to blame me for every person who died because of my joke cult, as he should
Alec, internally, and helplessly in love: he said to take care of the children
Cassandra Clare: The Red Scrolls of Magic is getting a new paperback cover!
Me:
I’ve just had this strange realization about The Lost Book of the White, which is that it will involve telling everyone what happened in The Red Scrolls of Magic. Logically, I’ve known this, but it’s just now hitting me—people will KNOW. And of course this isn’t a huge deal, it’s just that, since reading Red Scrolls, I’ve spent so much time carefully monitoring what I say about it to avoid spoiling people I know in real life and purposefully not discussing it with anyone else because it had too much of an emotional impact on me to talk about it casually with people who’ve never read any Shadowhunter books. And all this has given the contents of Red Scrolls a secret, deeply personal feeling to them. But come The Lost Book of the White, people will know. PEOPLE WILL KNOW
