Some sketches I did of Zoe for her redesign and his sister Rosalyne
Millenia ago, Jasper could recall standing at attention in a debriefing room, back on the colony that would never be hers, while an enemy pearl was being interrogated after capture. The olivine responsible for the interrogation had been brutal enough to get a reprimand after the record was reviewed, but the little gray pearl had been impossibly quiet and hadn’t given up any useful information before her end. It had been an uncomfortable waste of several days, and eventually, the truth had come to light; that they’d grabbed the wrong rebel pearl entirely, and that the little waif likely knew less about Rose Quartz’s rebellion than either of her captors.
She hadn’t realized how that would stick with her. The prospect of interrogating or torturing civilians was sickening enough in theory, but in practice, it had left an ugly mark on her impression of her higher ups. Sometimes, Jasper wondered if she would have gotten so invested in Protection Services if it weren’t for that little ghostly thing haunting her into the second age.
But this wasn’t a temporary base on a doomed colony; this was a familiar outpost in the Home cluster, staffed largely by old soldiers and remnants from the Pink Court. The red zoisite was a Gem she knew well, and her captive was being extremely cooperative. She was true to her word, and Jasper begrudgingly admired that, given her certainty that she would be shattered for her crimes.
Pearl answered questions when asked, and Zoisite took note of when her jaw would snap shut as if a string had been pulled. She was sympathetic, which left Jasper room to be attentive. Where the gray pearl millennia ago hadn’t had useful information to give, this Gem...
Her recollection was equal parts perfect, and impossible to reconcile with historical record. Pearl could describe in perfect detail a number of landmarks and bases and events, which confirmed her identity, and her involvement with the rebellion. She could recite coordinates and plans from the original colony plan rote, which helped fill the gaps as to how Rose Quartz’s tiny army had been able to turn the tides.
But she couldn’t confirm where that inside information had come from. She hadn’t been the primary source, after all; Pink Diamond Herself had given her to Rose Quartz. She had holo-vid of the exchange, albeit without sound.
...On a Spire that wasn’t erected for another two-hundred years, according to record.
Her memories must have been tampered with.
Zoisite confirmed this; Pink Diamond had never been given any blank pearls to distribute among Her court. And the scan on entry had indicated that she was a White Pearl, Luster Class; too tightly regulated to have been just handed out as a reward. And if another Gem had doctored her memories as far back as that, none of her testimony regarding Rose Quartz or the rebellion could be used.
Jasper watched, careful to guard her expression, as the pearl bowed her head and cried, not terribly unlike her distant sister had on Earth. If her surrender were truly pointless, there was no utility keeping her alive, and no one in the Home Galaxy could be trusted to keep the Renegade in line. She bit the inside of her cheek, vying for time, because Jasper knew she would open her mouth and say something profoundly stupid.
“I’ll take her from here, Zoisite,” she grumbled, “Just forget the whole thing. I’ll handle this privately.”
ZOE SAULALPIT (She/He)
A trusty mechanic. She often frequents Gemmenstein for new parts for her car. Else she resides in Mittgrad with his sister, Rosalyne Saulalpit. When she found Phan and Trina walking alongside the road, she chose to pick them along, not realizing what he'd get himself into...
Decaying Stone
ZOE SAUALPIT | HE/SHE
A charming figure in the streets of Mittgrad, always knowing what to say to have people follow her. He cares most about his little sister and garage.
