Red-backed Buttonquail (Turnix maculosus)
...a species of buttonquail (Turnicidae) which is known to occur in Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Solomon Islands. Although T. maculosus looks like a galliform quail, it is actually a charadriiform bird, making it more closely related to sandpipers and gulls than true quails. Like other buttonquails (and true quails), T. maculosus forages mostly on the ground, where it will feeds on insects and seeds.
