Luke looks at Wes a little too seriously for a moment before a smile breaks out across his face, unable to control it. "sorry," he apologizes, not looking sorry at all. he looks amused to the say the least, eyes crinkled upwards as laughter exudes from his chest. he chuckles and covers his face with his hand, an awful attempt at hiding it. "what do you usually think about then?" he asks once his laughter has died down- the amusement is still evident in his expression, but at least he's no longer laughing at Wes's expense. he doesn't mean to laugh at him; it's not every day someone tells him they're going to have "serious thoughts all day" - it's worth giggling about.

"Well this is ... nice."

It actually really was. One of the less busy places hidden around the base, usually for relaxing rather than a full-blown party - and very definitely better than a lot of the low-level dives Thera frequented in the course of her work. There was even an actual, real, not-cheap-imitation Firecream sitting happily in a glass on the table.

With Wes sitting across from her, settling in with his own drink in hand. It really, really was nice. And Thera hated herself just a tiny, tiny bit for being suspicious.

" Oh please, I could fly this shuttle in my sleep. " She gave the mirror another glance, ensuring her wig was still in place. It was her sister's face that greeted her in her reflection. A reflection she had gotten used to over the years. Were it not for the hight difference between them and the colour of their hair they might have been mistaken for twins. She was almost disappointed Tycho had long been made aware of their little trick. A part of her had hoped to be able to confuse him a little longer, just to see how long it would take him to find out the TRUTH by himself. Still, she could hardly complain. This job sounded somewhat easy. Of course the Rodians that had contacted them had demanded to talk to the princess herself — but they would never know the difference.

She would have offered to go alone but Ackbar had insisted on sending Tycho with her and she could not argue with that. They would never send out Leia on her own so sending her double without support would have looked suspicious. She had many thoughts about the situation, wondered how her COMPANION felt about being assigned as a glorified babysitter to a flight that the rebellion's most successful spy could have undergone on her own and briefly imagined the man storming into Ackbar's office to go on and on about how he had better things to do. Pilot's always had such an EGO.

Of course her teasing may not have helped their situation. But he simply made it so easy at times. " Still, I imagine the brass feels better if their ' princess ' has someone to watch her back. Not that Leia would need it either. " Her sister had gotten out of impossible situations before. A simple secret meeting with potential defectors was not the most HAZARDOUS mission of their lives. Considering the mess they usually got into, it almost felt like she was on holiday. " Though I'll admit neither of us would fly this thing with such a gentle approach as you do. Academy training truly cannot be shaken it seems. " It was more a simple observation than a dig at his imperial past. Not everyone had the luxury of being born into the world with eyes wide open as she and her sister had been thanks to their parents.

                      awkwardness did not begin to explain the complex set of emotions she still felt as she attempted to navigate through finding her place in the rebellion.   it wasn’t as if she didn’t have a occupation any longer, it hadn’t even changed, but she hardly had any connections to speak of.   friends, really.   perhaps it was a unneeded worry, but she feared that someone, anyone might believe her approaching them for the work, for a story, and that, more than anything, held her back.

                      thus, she almost hadn’t stepped forward, almost hadn’t said a thing, but the plaintiveness in the pilot’s voice  —  wes  —  had her bitting back a laugh so fully she was forced to sink her teeth into her lip.   they had a reputation, those x-wing pilots, and the ones from rogue squadron certainly seemed to live up to it and beyond.     ❝  who knows, maybe you’ll get the chance someday.  ❞     a slight bit of color rose to her cheeks as they looked at her, more than a smidgeon of embarrassment blossoming.     ❝  to steal a star destroyer, i mean.  ❞ ╲ @red-flight

"Of course I didn't!" Thera murmured back, barely moving her lips, "I always prefer to improvise when I'm doing something kriffing stupid."

Kriffing stupid or bloody inspired; sometimes the line between blurred more than people liked to admit. Either way, she currently had the desk-clerk of one of Scarif's finer hotels scurrying around looking for a booking she claimed she had made - in the name of 'Jansen West'. And when it couldn't be found, she would insist on looking through the listings herself.

It would take a bit of persuading, an over-stressed clerk and a fairly big dollop of luck, but she might get to see the names of the Imperial officers currently staying at the hotel ...

" I already told Mon Mothma I'm resigning from my position as rogue leader. " He had wondered how long he could avoid this conversation. As much as he knew this was a necessary step so he could focus on his studies on the force — it still felt like BETRAYAL at the end of the day. He knew Wedge would understand, he always did, and yet the dread over having to discuss this change had not left him. " I hate having to leave when you guys are already understaffed but ... the force calls me elsewhere. " He was prepared to be met with criticism, with mocking words. When had been the last time a Jedi had served in their ranks? How could he ask them to understand when he himself was struggling to see the BIGGER picture? Between his defeat at Cloud City, Shira's death and a million other little things ... he needed to find a new path.

15. Trying to be quiet while laughing themselves stupid. ~ Tycho or Wedge, maybe both, your choice ------------

"I'm such a kriffing hypocrite ... !" Thera mumbled behind her hands. They'd been covering her mouth for several seconds now, tightly enough that they might make it difficult to breathe - or maybe that was due to the hysterical giggles she was trying to suppress.

"I keep saying no to his pranks, but I'm letting you do this - !" Letting them. Not helping, not really, unless not telling when she found out (and very definitely not stopping them) counted. It probably did. But if she needed to she was quite prepared to argue that it had been entirely the boys' idea.

But there was still a tiny flicker of guilt as people wandered innocently into the cafeteria, ready to check the Specials Board. Which now just happened to sport a still shot from a certain holovid in Wedge's hidden files; the one where Wes Jansen had ended up in front of the entire squad, butt-naked except for a stuffed plush toy.

Thera hauled in a deep breath, desperately trying to gain oxygen while still keeping the noise down. "Do I even want to know what he did to deserve this?"

Lashes lowered, contemplating what to say. Or rather, what tack she ought to take this time around. Nature stirred itself up for some sass, on the tip of her tongue and silently encouraged by the habit she'd ... fallen too much into, regarding Wes.

In her own defense he did regard himself as the Prank Master of the base, and tended to live his life like a salesman, trying to get people to buy something they really shouldn't. But that was usually when he was sober, not rolling the base of a glass around on a bar to leave damp rings. Add in that Thera was starting to dislike the person she'd become around him, and she decided on benefit of the doubt.

"Alright Wes, I'm listening ... what've you got?"
