Red Bucket Equine Rescue!!
This week I wanted to focus on Red Bucket Rescue and a little bit about what I do for them as well as the rescue itself. This rescue was founded by a miraculous woman named Susan Pierce. She rescued the very first horse herself. She waited by a feral horse with a red bucket, trying to gain its trust, for six hours before she was finally able to lead the horse. That horse was the first rescue, named Harlow, and Ms. Pierce actually ended up adopting her. There are about 99 horses on the ranch. They are always at or near capacity. The rescue has land donated to them so that many horses can go out to pasture while the remaining on the ranch receive exceptional care. Each individual horse has a specialized diet, gets taken out to socialize, gets groomed, medicine, and tons of love of course. Red bucket honors the lives of ones they have lost, whether it is a horse, mule, donkey, or one of the ranch cats. Each rescue has a red bucket with their name on it that they get fed with everyday and when one of them passes, their bucket gets cleaned and placed on the memory wall, which is a wall with all of the buckets of passed rescue animals. They later have a memory service where volunteers will share memories about the passed animal. The horses name will also never be given to another one at Red Bucket.
One of the most common questions is: how do u get the animals?
There are a variety of ways that Red Bucket receives its animals. Majority of the animals were rescued from some sort of neglectful situation or they were saved from slaughter. On a side note, horse slaughter is illegal in the United States, but it is legal in our neighboring countries which is why people here will send their horses to slaughter.
The rescue will also receive owner surrenders and some horses are placed in red bucket for protection purposes. Some have been feral their entire lives while some rescues are retired race horses. There are many different circumstances and hundreds of different stories on the ranch. They try to saddle train every horse that is able to be ridden and they are properly trained before adoption. SOme horses will never be adopted out and will be residents of Red Bucket for the rest of their lives. This rescue also makes it a goal to rescue 1-3 pregnant mares each year. This rescue has saved over three hundred horses and will continuously save more. If you would like more information, click on the link below to learn more.

Animal of the week:
This is Legacy, he is an 8 year old thoroughbred. He is a very sweet and gentle boy. His beautiful coloring really makes him stand out. He is up for adoption at Red Bucket Rescue and is waiting for someone to take him home so he can get some extra love and some carrots. :)
