redcatg it is terrific and appropriately scathing. One thing that is not covered much here is the thousands of Israelis who are leaving the country every year, some of them surely out of repulsion at the constant warfare and religious fanaticism that is more rampant than ever. Obviously, this silent exodus isn't helping the Palestinians much, but it is rather telling.

@ redcatg I wonder if this is just a US thing? I'm well aware science hasn't always been used in the most uplifting of fashions, but hey if people can NOT die of easily curable diseases, I'm going to count that as a win.
@ redcatg Yeah, I think you’re right that he probably bends the stick too far in that direction. Obviously things like race and nation are constructed, but are intensely lived experiences. Those things matter. However, I am quite sympathetic to the notion of culture being a contested, shifting and collaborative enterprise: not just the exclusive patrimony of some elect.
That was a wonderful tumblr moment. I post Richard & Linda Thompson, and I get three immediate 'likes' simultaneously from three bloggers whose tastes are impeccable. That was really nice.
