JJ had come to hear of the rumours that surrounded the sprawling forest of the area he was transversing through. The legends of beings of unimaginable splendour and fear that populated the deepest recesses, only to be guarded by monsters and creatures of fearsome intent, larger and more deadlier than your standard forest dweller. A certain death sentence to some, and the scene for a horror movie for most...
But to JJ? It was a challenge.
A chance to improve himself, to better himself in ways that petty thugs and purse thieves couldn’t provide - A sense of risk, that primal danger that the streets just didn’t possess. Thus, he thrust himself with naive eagerness into the endless woods with his van, eventually coming to a halt once the brush became too dense.
For some time, there was nothing, and JJ found only boredom from the comfort of his van, but after just a few hours...He wasn’t alone. A shadow in the corner of his eye, or a glint of eyes in the darkness, a moment of silence until...Crunch.
A twig snapped. The figure leapt from the shadows, teeth gleaming through the murky light, and even with JJ’s augments, he was too slow and too human to handle the ferocious tenacity of the beast. Claws struck flesh, fur struck flesh and teeth gnawed...Metal?
A brief advantage, a surprise to the shadowy fiend, who was promptly surprised by the addition of a shocking development...A taser. A startled yelp echoed through the woods, and in its spasm of panic and pain, the beast let go, releasing JJ, and took flight through the woods. A small victory, however, the damage had been done...
...Blood seeped from the cuts across his chest, three defined claw marks having shredded through the padded vest. Teeth marks dented the metallic limbs, and a startling crack followed up the right side of his mask. His breathing staggered, filtered through the mask, and he rested his head against the trunk of a fallen tree, his left hand over the bloodied wounds. Nothing too deep but he needed just a little rest. Just a little close of his eyes.
This might have been slightly....Out of his depth.
