I enjoy Reddit as a means to read off hand stories about things I would have never heard of, keep up with news on things that interest me (video games, TV shows & movies, etc), but sometimes it really pisses me off.
I've read many comments about my previous job that were just flat out wrong. I was the team lead for 7 1/2 years and could basically be considered right below an expert considering I was in charge of this particular area of the ENTIRE USMC, but it never failed that I would see incorrect information posted as and accepted as fact at least once a month. Not to mention that I'm an avid Spider-Man fan and see wrong info posted all the time (recently I saw many people parrot that Raimi got the idea of organic webs from Ultimate Spider-Man, which no. Ultimate Spider-Man had web shooters too that he developed in issue #5 and organic webs didn't appear in any comics until The Other storyline years after the movies debuted).
But yesterday I had someone chastise me because I mentioned my kids will watch Ms. Rachel or my oldest will watch me game sometimes. They were condescending and saying things like "dad to dad" and "engage in age appropriate activities".
First of all, no shit. I do that already. My wife does that. We both do it together with them. We know how to be parents.
Second, this is the biggest problem with Reddit, people thinking they know everything about you from one comment. This one comment meant this guy KNEW I never interacted with my kids and made them watch TV so I can game. Never once did he think, perhaps that only happens when both kids wake up at 6am on Saturday so I take them to let my wife sleep in a little bit, and it's for an hour at most. No, obviously he KNEW that was a daily occurrence.
You see it all the time on there, someone mentions they like a specific media and everyone gangs up on them to talk about how they're the worst person ever. Idiots
Anyway, I told him if he wants to pay me the thousands of dollars it cost to bring them in the world he can tell me how to raise my kids, along with some examples of why he was wrong to think that's how I parented. No response lol.
