What all can be said about Liam Teixeira? He wasn’t the popular kid in high school by any means. At least not for his personality he wasn’t. The only time his name really made headlines was a freak incident during which he set the head cheerleaders uniform on fire. To be fair it was on a dare. She deserved it anyways. She’d slapped him in front of a crowd. Sure it was for trying to get her best friend to steal a car with him, but what was life without a little risk? His drug distributing was another story. He didn’t start out that way. On the contrary. Liam’s home life was decent. He was born to two very wealthy parents who loved and adored him, but loved traveling the world for work even more. Leaving him most of the time with his aunt and uncle. Which on its own really left him seemingly no excuse to act out the way he often did.
Unfortunately like most men in his family, Liam was cursed with the kind of luck that included falling for people who had a knack for living on the wild side. He met Natalia Walsh on his first day of school freshman year and fell instantly in love with her. Didn’t have to do much chasing. She fell for him just as quickly. As per usual things started out innocent. Girl likes boy. Boy likes girl. Girl also likes drugs. Liam learned during his pursuit of her that substance use ran rampant in her family. They’d normalized it. Taught her that anything she wanted to try was safe so long as it was under their roof. So why not experiment with a little bit of everything? Fortunately for Nat, Liam was far from the good boy she expected someone with a family like his to be. They bonded over his shared introduction to pot, cocaine, ecstasy. Connected through series of deep talks as he willfully followed her down the rabbit hole.
As time went on their love for one another continued to grow, and as it did, so did their desire to experience love on a different plane of existence. They found themselves in the pushes and the pulls of thrill seeking in a way that isolated them from everyone they’d ever grown to know. And in their own weird little way, everything was good. That is until Liam got sent for a stint in rehab after an incident that made his family all too aware of his new found lifestyle. The time away was devastatingly quiet, and as if the withdrawals weren’t enough, the silence as he waited for any word from Natalia drove him near madness. All the waiting and the aching coming to a tipping point the day he was brought back home. Unbeknownst to him, while he’d been away his aunt had received a call. Her parents. They had come home after a weekend away doing gods knows what and… there was no pulse. They’d rushed her to the hospital but it’d been far too late.
He’d been in and out of rehab several times since then. At one point even finished his degree online from the comfort of a program. Lot of good that did him right? Unfortunately by then his criminal history alone made it challenging to get work. Which was why, when his grandparents offered him the opportunity to come run their old Comic Book Shop out in California, he jumped on it. At least it was a job, and as far away from the memories as he could possibly get. Sure he did so in an agreement that he’d clean up his act, but of course, what his dear old grandparents don’t know wont kill them.
↳ Para:
Liam didn’t want to think about the next challenge that was a head. Not because he wouldn’t participate, but he was fairly certain the overthinking he tended to do would absolutely kill his buzz. The slow ticking clock on the wall read 8:57PM and while that meant he’d definitely locked up early, it wasn’t like he’d heard the ringing of the bell that hung above the front door in at least an hour or two. Either way it wouldn’t have mattered even if he hadn’t. What was done was done. He’d already moved a large box coincidentally in front of the cctv camera and had found himself a seat on the floor of the breakroom. Eyes closing as his brain replayed everything he’d learned since his arrival into town. Under normal circumstances he’d have gone out. Tried to find some of the few friends he’d made. Hell maybe even that one if she was speaking to him. Would have looked to get into a little trouble, or a lot, depending on where the night took them. But he didn’t. Instead he found himself sitting alone in the back of the newly locked comic book store, staring at his own reflection. Or at least he thought it was his reflection. The angel dust distorting his features to make him look younger. A version of himself that he hardly recognized. For some reason this version seemed much more worthy of time in the mansion than how he currently felt. It certainly wasn’t because he believed in second chances. Those had come and gone years ago. No, Liam simply found himself tired of watching life continue happening for everyone else. And yet if fighting for an opportunity is what he had to do, he was willing to play along. Hell he felt like he’d already spent most of his life competing already. Whether it be for forgiveness, attention, approval, for the next high? At least this time there was an actual prize at the end of it. And if he had to endure a few weird challenges for a chance at even a shot at a better life? Well, he’d done far worse for far less.
