My 1991 Rig. This pic is from 1 year ago...just before I shipped off my 1988 #RedKnob #FenderTwin to my #amp tech @marshalllespaulfan to be brought back to life after 26 years of dormancy in my basement. The grill is on upside down as a symbolic distress call. 😂 . I never really came to terms with this #amp when I was a kid, and a year after its resurrection I'm still discovering what it can do. Frankly, I'm a simple man. A plug and play guy. I like a couple of knobs, volume and tone, and I'm all set. This amp is so complex and 80s...the Sunn people that designed it for #Fender built in SO MANY bells and whistles that it just overwhelms a guy like me. However...if you like to sit in front of an amp for hours, just tweaking knobs, flipping channels, combining channels, boosting this, cutting that etc...then this is the amp for you! #TinnitusTuesday with #TheTwin. . It's only now, 33 years after I bought it new at @stevesmusic, Montreal, that I have finally come to appreciate this amp more. Don't get me wrong...at 100 watts it's still WAY to f-ing loud for home use...but I now appreciate what Fender tried to make here. Literally the most sonically flexible amp on the planet (with seemingly limitless headroom!). . Bonus Twin Trivia: this amp once had the honour of being on stage with legendary motown band The Temptations just over 30 years ago on Feb 21 1991, when my friend @musicfactorpodcast's band was the opening act for the Temps at the Verdun Auditorium in Montreal Canada. He needed an amp that wouldn't get lost on a huge arena stage, and so I loaned him this one! And that's the closest to fame I ever got... 😂 . Here's the 2020 #CustomShop '68 #Thinline #Relic I acquired last year thanks to @sherwoodkw. It is running direct into my gigging #amp from back in the early 90s, the 1988 #Fender #RedKnobTwin. . One thing really inspired me to pay more attention to this amp after my amp tech @marshalllespaulfan resurrected it from well over a decade of dormancy, and that was a very positive comment I received on it from a well known guitar player and collector** here on Instagram, who indicated that he thought these were great #amps. And this guy knows amps...he has most, if not all, of the world's most desirable and valuable amps in his collection...and yet he looks upon the lowly RedKnob Twin with enough fondness to take the time to express himself on my feed in comment form? Hmm...I had to spend more time with this amp! . Lately I have been enjoying the feature demonstrated in this shot: if you plug into either of the inputs on the right side, the signal is routed through both channels at the same time. On channel 2 (the "distortion" channel) I have the gain almost up to the top with the bass up and the treble turned down, giving me a very grungy overdriven tone. On channel 1 (the "clean" channel) I have a brighter eq with a lot of the bass cut. The volume of ch 1 is mixed a little higher than ch 2 so in the end I'm getting a soft warm grungy background tone from ch 2 mixed with clear bright tone and note definition supplied by ch 1. You could spend all day tweaking tones on this thing! . **For privacy sake let's call him "Joe B". No that's too obvious, uhhh, let's say "J. My 90s rig has been resurrected! . 1988 #RedKnob Twin 1987 #AmericanStandard #Stratocaster . When I had my brief career as a "rockstar" from 1991 to 1994 this is the #guitar and #amp setup you would have seen me using live (along with a Boss DD3 and Boss "Digital Metalizer" distortion pedal for some unknown reason! 😂). The amp was recently resurrected by my tech @marshalllespaulfan after lying completely dormant for well over 10 years and is still loud af! The guitar still sounds just like a #Strat and is in decent shape considering how many times it hit the ground (or was kicked across a stage!) back in the day.
