#TBT to Red Nose Day in the USA
It’s almost the weekend!!!! Last Thursday, May 21st, 2015, was the first day the U.S. has participated in Red Nose Day. Red Nose Day started 30 years ago in the U.K. and has raised more than $1.6 billion since it started in 1988. This year, the U.S. raised $21 million on Red Nose Day, and through its multiple platform strategies (hashtags, Instagram, Twitter, Red Nose App, live telecast, etc) it was the “third-most-social television program last week, following behind the final episode of the "Late Show" with David Letterman and the 2015 NBA draft lottery” with “149,000 tweets about the program from three hours before the broadcast to three hours after it.” I think we did pretty well! Not as well as the U.K. who raised $122 million at it’s event in March, but for our first go, I think we did well! (Information from The Chronicle of Philanthropy.)
I was able to tell some of my students at work why I was wearing the red nose and it certainly brought some smiles to their faces and a sense of understanding about how some kids struggle to just find food to eat. Over all I think it was a great success!
Here are some of my co-workers and students sporting the Red Nose!
Did you participate in RedNoseDay?
