Miles Teller and Eddie Redmayne in Talks to Play Mismatched CIA Agents in Doug Liman Spy Thriller ‘Star One,’ CAA Launching Sales in Cannes (EXCLUSIVE)
By Alex Ritman, Variety, May 6, 2026.
“Star One” follows two wildly mismatched CIA agents, the first daring and charismatic (Teller), and the other, a strait-laced strategist (Redmayne), who must work together to execute a top-secret mission: a treacherous journey across thousands of miles of enemy territory to covertly deliver arms. As per the synopsis: “This is the untold true story of the first intelligence star ever awarded for one of the most important yet least known missions in modern history.”

The Jackal returns soon.
Peacock's hit spy series is officially launching on another mission next year.
Based on the 1971 political thriller novel of the same name by Frederick Forsyth, which was also previously adapted into a film in 1973, The Day of the Jackal follows a ruthless British assassin known as "The Jackal" (Eddie Redmayne) in a cat-and-mouse chase with an MI6 officer (Lashana Lynch) investigating him. Though there's only one book about The Jackal from Forsyth, The Day of the Jackal season 1's ending made some significant departures from the novel to leave the door open for season 2 and beyond.
The series launched to impressive acclaim in late 2024, currently holding a "Certified Fresh" 85% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The Day of the Jackal was also nominated for several awards for its freshman outing, including an Emmy for Outstanding Cinematography for a Series (One Hour), two Actor Awards from SAG-AFTRA, two Golden Globes, two Critics Choice Awards, and more.
The cast of The Day of the Jackal season 1 was led by Eddie Redmayne as the titular elusive assassin, whose real name was later revealed as Alexander Duggan, with No Time to Die star Lashana Lynch portraying the intelligence officer working to capture him. The ensemble also included Úrsula Corberó, Chukwudi Iwuji, Khalid Abdalla, Lia Williams, Eleanor Matsuura, Damian Richardson, Charles Dance, Nick Blood, Kate Dickie, and Gerard Kearns, among others.
In addition to the return of Redmayne, Peacock has gradually revealed some of the newcomers joining the assassin for season 2's cast of characters. Matt Bomer was recently confirmed to star in a recurring role as a new villain in The Day of the Jackal season 2, though details about his character are still being kept under wraps. Furthermore, I May Destroy You's Weruche Opia and Halo's Pablo Schreiber will appear in recurring roles that have yet to be disclosed.
Plot details for the upcoming episodes are also being kept under wraps with The Day of the Jackal season 2 production already underway in Budapest. Filming kicked off earlier this spring, though the timeline for completion has yet to be revealed. Season 1 began filming in June 2023 and extended through the fall before the series premiered in November 2024; if season 2 follows that timeline, then production will likely conclude by the end of this summer.
As such, The Day of the Jackal season 2 isn't expected to premiere until summer 2027 at the earliest, though a fall release could be in the cards to repeat season 1's strategy.
I love his smile 😍

New post: Matt Bomer Joins ‘The Day Of The Jackal’ Season 2.
Deadline, May 11, 2026.
Matt Bomer (Outcome, Fellow Travelers) has joined Season 2 of Peacock and Sky’s spy thriller drama The Day of the Jackal as a recurring opposite star Eddie Redmayne. Details about Bomer’s character are being kept under wraps, but I hear he is playing a villain.
