yess the michael mcchill raid made me SO emotional. i was listening to the discord on twitch since i’m not in it with a few thousand other people, and a bunch of us were just freaking out in the chat about how wholesome it was and how much we loved michael and supporting him. i won’t deny this fandom can be pretty damn toxic, but when we come together and support smaller streamers like that it makes me so so happy.
random but i feel like a lot of people generalise dream’s fandom on stan twitter and while i get it because they’re the most vocal, they’re also SUCH a small portion of dream’s fans. like how many followers does he have on his twitter accs? a few mil and then his tweets get about 300k likes on average, the replies in the thousands, maybe 10s of thousands? it sounds like a lot but the man has 24 million subscribers and counting. we’ve all seen how wholesome the youtube comments are. his fandom is so much bigger than those of us with stan accs/blogs and made up of probably much younger people than even the ones on twitter, and it’s those people who will be wanting to go to meet ups as well as stans. it’s those people who will be meeting someone they count as their idol and be so so happy and a lot of them will be kids and it just warms my heart so much to think of them meeting him and being so happy :’) that’s what i want to be there to witness, i don’t really mind about meeting him directly i just wanna witness the people being happy :D
sorry for the ramble lmaoo this got long
I was listening on a Twitter space, same deal ! It was such a surreal moment, to go from Dream making us say dumb stuff and having so much fun to welcoming Michael to the smp and this pause where all of us realized oh shit this is happening; even the fact that Dream had us do it, like a literal welcoming committee, makes me soft
And yeah I totally agree. The fandom - and his fandom itself - is so much bigger than the kinds of people who interact with him on Twitter. Like we were all fawning over his YT community post comments but there's millions more of them than there are Twitter stans or even us on Tumblr (who never get any recognition, but that's for the best) - little kids with replica minecraft swords and starry eyes as they tell him how cool it was when he killed Sapnap, or jumped into lava, or flew on a boat. He's a larger-than-life figure to them and watching them get to meet him as their hero would be so rewarding
No worries for the ramble <3 I love it
