Redskins Draft - My Take
My take on the Redesign draft picks if anyone cares.
1. Jonathan Allen DE - Love this pick. I was liking Foster more, but with the shoulder issues people are talking about, I am very happy with Allen (although he has shoulder issues of his own to worry about, but not as severe). The pick I would have liked more than this is Barnett out of Tennessee (yes, I know I am Gator fan, but that dude is a beast and as a Gator fan, I saw a lot of it. Unfortunately for us, he went to the Eagles). Plus, he is a VA boy. I love my local athletes. A+
2. Ryan Anderson OLB - I like the pick. I thought we needed another Inside LB more, but Anderson gives us another pass rusher outside that we have been lacking. Can’t go wrong with 2 Bama defenders. A
3. Fabian Moreau CB - Definitely need another guy on the other side of Norman, especially since Breeland seems to have lost some of his confidence. I like his size, but he will most likely start the season on the PUP list. I think we could have gotten him later or another CB who could contribute right away. The injury issue lowers the grade. C
4. Samaje Perine RB - This is big RB. We need a good goal line guy. He is also a good runner, but lacks explosiveness and speed. He will be more of a short yardage workhorse to start, but will work his way in as the starter. He can definitely break some tackles and move the ball down field. Good potential in this pick. B
4. Montae Nicholson S - I don’t get this pick. He wasn’t even expected to be drafted. We definitely have a need at this position, but there were SO MANY better options in the 4th round. He is a big guy, that ducks his head when he tackles and supposedly his toughness does not match his size. That does not bode well in the NFL. Supposedly his coverage skills are pretty good though. Scot McCloughan would have never made this pick. F
5. Jeremy Sprinkle TE - I like this pick. Good TE that can catch and block. Has the ability to get away from coverage and make some sneaky good catches. Can also throw a good block and a great stiff arm. Strength may be a little bit of a question, but that can easily be fixed. Not a position of need really, but he upgrades the depth at the position. B
6. Chase Roller C - Definite position of need. Most everything about this guy, I like. The one thing I don’t like is his short arms. Last O-lineman we drafted with short arms did not play well or transition like we hoped. C+
6. Robert Davis WR - Big NFL type of WR. Very physical. Hands are above average. Lacks speed and not the best route runner. Tends to wait on the ball instead of going to get it. Might be a good WR to lineup in a pass catching TE position on certain plays. Should be good inside the 20. C+
7. Josh Harvey-Clemmons S - I like this guy better than Montae Nicholson on paper, but he tends to have a recreational drug problem. Busted twice in school. He’s a physical player and good tackler. Tends to over run plays and under run RBs on angles. Has great reach and good hands and can read the QB’s eyes rather well. Because of the drug issue, he could be unreliable and that lowers his grade. Still better than Nicholson. D+
7. Joshua Holsey DB - Purely a guy to fill out some depth. Another one with injury issues. Skins are not doing their research it seems. I doubt he makes the team or the practice squad. Don’t know much about him other than he played in the SEC. D
Overall, I give the Skins draft a grade of C+. Seem to be missing a prime component of player research. Lots of injury issues and some character issues.
