RG3 will be cut in the coming months by the Redskins

RG3 is a solid player, but he has played his last snap as a Washington Redskin

With the NFL struggling to find a back-up quarterback, one will be made available very soon, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.  According to Rapsheet, the Redskins are planning on releasing quarterback Robert Griffin III in the coming months.

Robert Griffin III wants to play for the Dallas Cowboys, and the Cowboys do in fact need a back up quarterback to Tony Romo.  With many quarterback needy teams in the NFL, I am very sure the former Heisman winner will find a home.

Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins has filed a trademark for "YOU LIKE THAT"

Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins has trademarked the saying “YOU LIKE THAT”

Kirk Cousins started putting on a show after his famous “You Like That” video that went viral.  Cousins and the Redskins were able to win a comeback game over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and when entering the tunnel he screamed to a CSN Sportsnet cameraman “You Like That”.  Well the quarterback is now going to trademark his iconic phrase, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell.

Per Rovell, Cousins filed the trademark two days after the game. The trademark, if approved, would apply towards bumper stickers, home decor, posters, clothing and electronic billboard advertising bearing the catch-phrase.

DeSean Jackson says he cannot wait to face the Eagles

Desean Jackson is ready to return and clinch a playoff spot by beating his former team.

The Washington Redskins are hoping to get into the playoffs, and one of the teams that stand in their way is the Philadelphia Eagles.  DeSean Jackson has been waiting for the Eagles game on the schedule and is excited about a return to the city.

“Can’t get any better than going back to Philly, Saturday night football,” Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson said, via CSN Washington. “Let’s get it!”

Jackson, was released last year by the Eagles because he reportedly had ties to gangs and many other things.  The Eagles painted a bad picture for the star wide out but he was able to land in their division. Since Jackson’s return from a hamstring injury back in Week 9, Cousins has been 152 of 214 (71 percent) for 1,888 yards, 13 touchdowns and three interceptions.

Jackson is playing at a high level and torched the Bills last week. Even Rex Ryan said he looked like Jerry Rice on the football field.  It will be interesting to see if the Redskins can get passed the Eagles this week.

Redskins swipe tight end from Bills practice squad

Bills have lost Marcel Jensen from their practice squad to the Redskins

The Buffalo Bills lost a tight end on their practice squad today and moved quickly to find a replacement. According to the agent of Marcel Jensen, the Redskins have signed him from the Buffalo Bills practice squad.

Jensen was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Jaguars after the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football at Fresno State. The Redskins will be his fifth different team.

Redskins have signed TE Alex Smith to their 53 man roster

Tight End Alex Smith has signed with the Washington Redskins

Washington Redskins have signed tight end Alex Smith to a contract on Tuesday. Smith was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He played college football at Stanford.

Smith has also been a member of the New England Patriots,Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns, and Cincinnati Bengals.

Smith played college football at Stanford University. He was a three-year starter and was runner-up to the John Mackey Award, given to the nation’s top tight end, in 2004. Some of his honors included 2004 second-team consensus All-American, 2004 Team MVP, 2003 Honorable mention All-Pac-10, 2003 Honorable mention academic All-Pac-10 and 2002 Academic All-Pac-10. He finished his career starting 32 of 44 games, making 107 receptions for 1,291 yards and eight touchdowns.

Former Redskins defensive end Adam Carriker has retired from the NFL

Adam Carriker has announced his retirement

Today Adam Carriker a former first-round pick of the Rams in 2007, announced his retirement on Facebook. Carriker’s career was derailed by recurring quad injuries. He has not played a snap since 2012 and was released by the Redskins in 2014. Carriker recorded nine sacks and 125 tackles across 65 career games.

“I’ve known for months I was done with football and I was going to retire. I just never announced it. But now is as good a time as any. As many people know, I participated in the Veteran Combine last spring. The feedback was very positive from about two dozen teams when they spoke with my agent, and we came really close to signing a contract.

I love football, and I don’t think people will question that, but I’ve reached a point where I’m proud of what I’ve done on the field. Anybody who knows me knows I have not and will not be bored since the day I decided to walk away a few months ago. I wasn’t going to sign a deal that I didn’t consider fair to my family and myself, and as a result, no deal was made. I said thanks, but no thanks, and wished them all good luck this season. They said the same. Although every player ultimately makes the decision to retire, and I played 8 memorable seasons in the NFL, the leg injuries I suffered with the Redskins got me to this day sooner in life than I should have.”

Redskins tight end Derek Carrier has suffered a torn ACL and MCL

Redskins have lost TE Derek Carrier for the year with a torn ACL and MCL

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media Insiders, the Washington Redskins will have to make the playoffs without one of their key pass catchers. According to Rapoport, Derek Carrier tore his ACL and MCL Week 14 against the Bears.

The injury will keep him out for the remainder of the season. He was acquired from the 49ers for a fifth-round pick in late August, Carrier caught 17 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown in 12 games with the Skins.

Carrier injured himself with 2 minutes 37 seconds left in the first quarter, on the first play of Washington’s second possession. Kirk Cousins’s throw was slightly behind Carrier, but the tight end twisted to make the catch for a gain of seven yards.

However, linebacker Shea McClellin tackled Carrier low almost immediately. Carrier had to be helped off the field and shortly after was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Carrier’s injury left Washington with only one healthy tight end, Jordan Reed, in uniform. The team’s other tight end, Je’Ron Hamm, was a healthy scratch for Sunday’s game.

Redskins make a handful of roster moves; Release TE Anthony McCoy

Washington Redskins have signed Lynden Trail to their practice squad

The Washington Redskins released tight end Anthony McCoy and promoted Je’Ron Hamm from the practice squad.

McCoy signed as the team’s third tight end right before the season because of season-ending injuries to Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen during the preseason.

Hamm, was an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana-Monroe in 2014 has never suited up for a regular season game.

The team also signed linebackers Derrick Mathews and Lynden Trail to the practice squad. With Hamm’s open spot, the team released cornerback Deveron Carr as a corresponding move to make room for Mathews and Trail.
